Cat Questions

I have an 05 scab I am in the process of gathering money and components for my system.
1) How many cats do I have?

2) How much do the cats affect sound?

3)Can I run without any, do I NEED a MIL, if it throws the CEL is that bad or just annoying?(and don't give me the bent valve speech I don't believe that at all, I agree to disagree)

4) last of all sorry if there is too many ?'s how much is a fair price for a stock cat?

Thank you

Definately need to know your build date. I believe about half way through 05 they changed to 2 cats from 4.

If you remove your cats you would need a Mil to trick the computer. I think it will not run properly in the long run without them unless you get a custom tune for no cats.

Dont quote me though.

Anything built after January 2005 has two converters but all flex fuel trucks have 4. The very best way to find out would be to look under and see for yourself, its not at all hard to identify.

OEM converters resonate alot of sound and do an excellent job at filtering the exhaust smells. I hate smelling exhausts. Only downside to it is the restriction it adds to the flow path. Hi-flow converters are a great updgrade for unleashed volume, and increased flow path of atleast 44% better than OEM.

You can run no cats but you will have a CEL, which isn't exactly bad but it will be bothersome, and its nice to have it fixed with SIMs, or custom tunes because when theres an actual CEL issue it would be nice to catch it early.

Never a such thing as too many questions. Right now a 2 cat system could get you $40 scrapped, a 4 cat system would be more around $70.

Part of a more professional and quality truck is it being very quiet like a Caddilac.

Fords only trying to put out great trucks and whatevers disliked can be altered or modified to be better to an individuals likings. Though I must say I loved having the 4 cat system, cutting the rear cats out and running just the fronts saved me so much on buying hi-flows, having them installed, and having the O2s re-mounted, and having better flow than hi-flows and nearly louder than hi-flows, I knew buying this truck would save me money in many ways

Ford takes pride in their trucks being quality and lasting long. Also, Ford's actually have a toned exhaust. I showed my dad my friends Chevy with his straights, and he said "that sounds like a poorly built motor"

Depending on mufflers, usually 30% - 50% louder with hi-flows than it originally is with stock cats.
