feeling pacesetter long tubes, will they hold up?
hey guys i know this has probably been discussed lots but i need some quick info. im looking for a set of headers for my truck (2000 f150 4x4 5.4L) and read that shorties don't do much in hp gains and torque, so considering long tube which will eliminate all my cats (back 2 are already gone) and have true duals with no mufflers so its already pretty loud. with long tubes will they have holes for the sensors or at least the front 2? what do i do with the back sensors? im not planning on running any cats just will have to put in some sorta of glasspacks/mufflers (ideas?) Any engine troubles with long tubes? i have edge to take off the engine light if it will throw it on. Any info be mint about ppl running them so i can get feedback about performance.
let me know
thx

Pacesetters are decent, as long as your talking about the $500 set. The $280 ceramic set is not going to last you a very long time depending on your mileage per year, and how much salt your truck sees. I'd just mount the rear sensors in the pipes. Yes the longtubes have mounts in the collector for the front sensors.
i would stay away from pacesetters. they are made of carbon steel. which means they are not very durable and rust from the inside. the only material i'd look for is stainless steel.
the rear o2 sensors you can use mil eliminators to block the signal that would trigger the cel. do you live in an area that has emission tests?

no i live in a small town in Canada so i don't have to worry about that. will the stock front sensor wires be long enough to fit in the holes in the long tubes? also what if i just put the back 2 sensors back in the piping?

the dynatech kit will come with everything you need. i'd also check out american racing headers. they are just as good. both systems are very pricey. sometimes you get what you pay for when it comes to exhaust systems.
American Racing states that their headers only work for 2wd though. That sucks cause they use 2.5" collectors which are perfect for true duals.
ya i read the same thing about American racing....2.5 would have been mint but 3 will still work just a little more adapters.

Darren they would make customizations to their headers for the F150, but it will cost a some more. The company is very reputable and their quality of work is excellent. I wish I knew about them when I built my mustang. They would have complimented my Dr. Gas X pipes.
If you have the money I'd get the dynatech and if you didn't I'd wait and save money to get them.

i still dont think pacesetters are that bad. i would ask people that actually have those headers and get their opinion. mine are still new so i cant help the long run question.
Pacesetter and Dynatech are both 1 3/4 tubes and where pacesetter is 3" collector dynatech is 2.5". Personally I'm going to get the american racing header complete kit. If you read their site it is a header to tip system for 1400 bucks with cats.
"2WD F150 owners now have the opportunity to increase horsepower and torque by a substantial margin by installing American Racing Headers' new high quality header systems. The entire system is manufactured using 304 S/S and comes complete with long tube headers, high flow catted or off-road center section, dual in and out Magnaflow Muffler (with internal X-pipe) and side exit dual tips that locate in front of the passenger side rear wheel. These systems were designed to provide outstanding power, sound, appearance, and longevity"
I plan to run no cats but overall they are my pick. Plus you can have them make the tubes in 1 3/4" instead of 1 5/8"

i ran pacesetter shortys for almost 3 year yes they got very rusty mud baked on them salt ate at them rain ate at them but no leaks ever. and i sold them to another member on here and hes using them on his F150 now so even thoe there carbon steel they hold up pretty good. those primary walls were still very thick when i sold them.
i have pacesetter longtubes the Quick trip got for 283 bucks over a year n a half ago i sprayed them with VHT header paint in some spots its kinda rusty but other its still painted and that michigan snow n salt all winter long too. but the VHT deff held up better than the paint that pacesetter uses.
if you have 450-500 bucks get the jet coated ones they wont rust. i just didnt have money. and to run 2.5 just get 2 3" to 2.5" adapters thats what i did and put them right on the collector
