Good luck with it, just doesn't look as good IMO.

I'll gladly detail my tips just to have them 45'ed. Molded mud slash guards ( not cheap tacky rubber mud flaps ) is always an option to help keep them cleaner but in all reality road debris such as tar and water stains with chemicals can still get them dirty underneith and usually half way up the sides. I also prefer having the sound of the exhaust guided towards the sides so it echos off the buildings a little more and doesn't **** off the guy behind you much when your fumes blow into his a/c ( I hate that very much ).

Straight out looks good, but not on 4x4's. If you do a lot of off roading then the rear exit could end up getting pinched between the bumper and the ground if you go over some steep terrain.

It is a crying shame to put them straight out the back... the 5.0s sound so good. you cant hear them out the back. I tow all the time, managed to break half ton springs and upgraded to 3/4 ton springs. but when its all loaded up it sounds awesome! I will never do exhaust straight out the back. Just need some good mudflaps, then its no problem

Mine are straight out the back with 18" 3.5" tips on 2.5" piping..

As far as towing is concerned.. unless your driving a diesel or your truck is smoking.. I can't imagine there would be much of a difference with 45s or straights.

I guess it's really just a personal preference, but I like them straight out the back.. I don't imagine there would be much of a difference in sound.. it's pretty much all about looks.

Some kind of rock or hazard off-roading could damage a 45'd degree tip set up just as equally as the chances are with a straight out tip. One isn't safer than the other.
