Disconnected Exhaust after the Y

I currently have 5.4 with stock cats and Cherrybomb Pro dumped before the axle. I like the tone but I want more sound, so I will be ordering the Roush OR in a few months. In the mean time, I was debating possibly cutting out the muffler and installing a piece of pipe in it's place. As a test, I disconnected the exhaust just after the Y. At idel, I am extremely satisfied with tone and sound. Under acceleration, I believe their was a little to much drone and more of an old truck sound than I like or am willing to deal with. My question is, when the straight pipe is connected all the way back to the axle, will it give me less drone and a smoother sound under acceleration. By the way, in compairson, the exhaust disconnected at the Y is about half the sound level of my Mach One with High Flow cats and Borla Stinger catback. I wonder if disconnecting at the Y some how muffles the sound.

They do sound really good disconnected up there but the power loss sucks! I have a video of my truck with the pre-cats only.

I wish I could have left it that way
