Exhaust Shopping

Hopefully going exhaust shopping this week, so im either going the MBRP kit route or with having a shop do something... problem is I dont know exhaust and I dont really know what the heck I should even tell them I want or how I want it done. I certainly dont want something just thrown together.
You guys confuse the heck out of me... 14 this 18 that, X pipe this, Y pipe that..

I dont want drone, raspy, crackle, pop, cant hear a darn thing cause its so loud. Just something nice sounding, but not overly loud. Dont want to lose my low end power. Not sure if side exit vs dual out the sides makes a difference either.. Currently im running a edge, hopefully upgrading to the gryphon, with possible volant air intake. If that makes a difference.
Help...

I sound way the MBRP SI/SO kit, or Roush Off-Road kit for you. No rasp, heavy deep rich tone, great quality stainless steel, fair price for the cat-backs. Avoid Flowmaster ( very loud, crackley ), Magnaflow ( raspy, not always loud enough if you dont have cat work done ), and the rest exept for Borla, If you decide to buy a muffler and tip(s) I would suggest a Borla muffler to hand over to them, but the cat-backs more.

I had an Flowmaster 50 series welded into the factory exhaust on my '07. Not too loud, but u could hear it. They used the factory exhaust pipe and I had a stainless tip welded on the end.

Let me correct myself, I would suggeest the MBRP single in single out kit. Or the Roush Legal Exhaust kit.

I have the MBRP 3 1/2" SI/SO. I think it's loud. Not obnoxius but not quiet either. I see there's a guy on Ebay that sells a 2 1/2 in 2 1/2 out MBRP just the muffler. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MBRP-...Q5fAccessories I'm sure that would be more quiet than the 3 1/2".

Here's a couple videos of mine. If you can tell anything from youtube vids

Cold start.

Will check out the links.

Does going with a Single side exit vs a dual exit have any bearing on the amount of noise or is it basically just the muffler?
Also I see the Dual MBRP pipes are 2.5 where the single is 3.5 wide. Is there a performance diff in going one vs the other since technically going with the dual you would be exiting 5 inches of exhaust?

I have heard customers say that the dual out the sides is louder and with the dual exit MBRP it sounds kinda funny. Most customers like the singe side exit MBRP or the Magnaflow.

Before I installed my mbrp I noticed on the inlet side of the muffler it tapers down to 2 3/8 just before it enters the baffleing material in the muffler so i think the size is just for show.

Think that the Roush may be a bit quiter, however I think it depends alot on where the mic is held.
The problem with the roush is that it only exits the rear, and I tow a trailer, im not really wanting the exhaust exiting the rear because of trailer towing
I found this link, his exhaust doesnt sound that loud

That's quiet compared to mine. But then again youtube videos don't do exhaust systems any justice imo. From your description of what noise level you want I wouldn't go with the MBRP SI/SO.

From your recent post, I have a feeling that you wish yours wasnt so loud?
Or are surprise to how loud it actually ended up being?

I dont know what else to get. Roush exits the rear, so I dont want that.
Magnaflow doesnt make a kit for a Crewcab, 6.5ft box.
Flowmaster is way to loud. So that leaves me with something custom made, or the MBRP.
Problem with custom made is how do I know it wont be just a loud as some of the other ones?

Not at all. I'm happy with mine. I guess it all comes down to what you consider loud. Loud or louder to me is when you can hear it cruising down the road. And you can hear this exhaust. Especially around 1900 to 2000 rpm. Darren's exhaust to me is loud, too. Check out the in cab videos.

Yeah it is pretty loud, my Magnaflows can really drone the interior out like a Flowmaster.

I would suggest you just buy a 18" Magnaflow body, and have the shop install it to fit, and run your choice of tips to where you want. It wont be real loud inside, hardly at all.
