Tell me the muffler man is full of ****

Just got back from the muffler shop and showed him Cashel's setup which is what I want. He told me he discouraged it because of the O2 sensor issue. It can throw off the fuel mixture and burn up a piston or two. Also by taking off the cats then you have no backpressure. He showed me a magnaflow and they are just a straight thru pipe, whereas the flowmaster actually has partial chambering. He also said putting bends in the piping would not help either. I am wondering if anyone else has this setup on an 08 screw (if it matters) and can tell me about backpressure issues (ie. sluggish on takeoff) and any O2 sensor problems. I'm gonna call other shops and get their .02 worth. Thanks for all replies.

I have Cashesl's set up, but with OEM pre-cats, 2.5" pipes, and 11" body mufflers. Freeing up exhaust flow is healthier for the engine, so they really dont know the honest truth of what they are talking about. Magnaflows straight through design is the healthiest flowing exhaust you could get on a truck, next to Borla which does the same inner design. Chambers and baffles are what kill the flow and performance.

he doesnt know what hes talking about...the rear O2 sensors are just catalyst monitors and have nothing to do with the A/F ratio.

Most any muffler shop you go to and ask them to remove cats,,,they will tell you all kids of BS and try to sell you on something else!
It is illegal for them to do it and they can get a very hefty fine if someone were to find out/maybe even get closed down!

Just shop around till you find a place that will do what you want.

Yeah, for whatever reason TX has been cracking down on exhaust modifications...they told me that if a cat isn't malfunctioning it cannot be changed at all. They also have EPA paperwork and require the cat to be sent in to verify the problem, etc.....this is from a shop that would do anything you requested a year ago, and a county that has no emissions testing whatsoever (but will soon be getting them).

Check out Houston...there are plenty of shops in town, and you just have to find the right guy, bring your own parts and have cash in hand and you should be in business.

i know a shop that will do it for you in houston. he offered to do me headers, delete cats and no muffler. don't know the name but its on the north side of houston. on stuebner airline right before louetta. i think its called Z's. nice guy. he does cash deals as well.

also Tomball muffler on 2920 right before 249 (about 5 minutes NW of Z's), that guy is the best exhaust/brake shop i have ever been to. dude told me he couldn't fit me in on the day i came after we had an appointment, came in on New Years and did my exhaust while he was fixing something. let me chill with him in the shop and watch him chop my exhaust up. took him 20 minutes and he was done. not sure if he will do illegal work but he also does cash deals

try going to the muffler man open headers/manifolds, with the stock exhaust gutted, and ask him to "fix" it for you.
