Question nOOb Question regarding my 98 4.2l

I have had my 1998 4.2L F150 for awhile now and it's completely stock. Well, last week I saw >and heard< another V6 F150 that had a nice rumble to it. (I asked what engine he had but he was in too big of a hurry to talk more).

My truck has the original exhaust system under it which, more than likely, will be needing replaced soon due to rust. It might make it another year but why wait. Right?

So, what would you suggest for my truck? The warranty is gone of course. So that isnt an issue. And I am in a part of Ohio that doesnt test emmisions (yet). Is there a setup that will allow me to gain the rumble (not roar) I want AND not hurt fuel economy or maybe improve fuel economy? Maybe a duel out setup?

I am open to suggestions.

Thanks!
Dave

Flowmaster's would hurt your low-end torque, but are louder. Maggies are a deeper rumble without the loss. I'm going for a SIDO with Flo-Pro muffler soon enough

Well I went with a Cherry Bomb Vortex catback and I'm happy with it. No vid yet of what it sounds like with the Hiflows installed. But these are before/after vids of my 97 4.2L.

I would suggest looking into Cherry bomb, V6s sound horrible with straight through exhausts, and not too great with Flowmaster.

I agree CB rocks on the v6s.

First time this ever happened to me since I had the new exhaust put on but one of the ladies where I work asked if I could park my truck somewhere else, the sound when it starts up startles them. I had to laugh, said I loved to but its assigned parking, best I can do is either park nose in or you just have to live with it.

Thanks for the info fellas. I think a few might have overlooked the part where I said "rumble (not roar)". It's only got a 6 foot bed on it and I would like to still be able to hear myself think. LOL!!

Well mine can be a tad loud when you get on it, but I suspect thats because the hiflow cats are right under the cab , but when you are cruising its very nice.
