I bet if you pulled 2 cats off you will never get caught. The shops don't want to touch cats because of the fines.

I used to have a few mustangs in my days that would make your ears bleed from 14.5:1 pistons & a few built with boost and no cats. I never once had a cop look under the car. I did have a friend that got pulled over and the cop banged on the cats with his night stick to see if they were hollowed out.

Let's be honest here. It is a truck, not a race car. You might get hassled if it is lowered, gets thrown in the category of the guys that drag frames in northen cali. It is not like you are street racing and they are looking for something big to bust you on.

Most likely, if it was that loud, no muffler or any cats, they will send you to the state ref. Good luck and get ready to be bent over if that ever happens.

The dealer could screw you if you are still under warranty and something goes wrong that is related to the exhaust system.

You could rip everything out and just run a straight pipe if you wanted to. But getting a smog check is another thing. If you planned on registering as an off-road vehicle, like guys who have cars built for the track, then sky is the limit.

The rumor is that there are suppose to be "friendly" smog shops who will not notice that your hi-flow cats are not OEM. The rumor is that these shops hire some none too bright techs who can't tell long tube from short tube headers, headers from OEM exhaust manifold, recognize a bolt on supercharger or turbo kit, or even know that your cold air intake isn't OEM.

But of course......these are just rumors that I hear.

I had the 11386 put on my 06 5.4L a little over a week and a half ago, it sounds awesome. Nice and quiet in the cab at 65-70 mph and a quality roar at WOT.

I heard another rumor.

Rumor is that you can rip off the catalytic converters yourself, report to the police that you had your cats stolen overnight in your driveway, then just "replace" the "stolen" cats with hi-flows. If any smog techs question you about the "different" cats, just show them your police report.

Of course, these are just rumors.

California is the only state where hi-flow converters are illegal. Cutting the rears you should be alright, just dont try to pass a sniffer with them out.

i ended up trying it....DO not recomend it WAY to much noise in the cab exhaust was a tad bit louder but was not worth the modification i also lost a notisable amount of my bottom end power and ended up having to pay $80 to have them re installed because there is no way i can weld that close to the O2 sensor and in that tight of a space!
