help with cuting off cats
I have a 1998 4x4 xlt and i wanna cut off the cats. it's cat back exaust (i know.. its dumb) but i wanna just cut the cats off and replace with clamped straight pipe.
I need to know which to cut off, and if it will leak after i clamp it?
I just dont know what to do really.. ideas??

just cut them off and place pipe accross the gap and as long as you clamp the pipe on properly then you should be alright without leaks.
if your just taking off the rear cats it wont have a cel. if you took off all 4 without at least 2 high flows then it would throw a cel and mess with the air/fuel ratio.

You may get a CEL a couple thousand miles later, then again you may not. On my '04 truck, my rear cats are not at all monitored, so I cut mine and clamped in flanged straight pipe. Gained a good sound out of it and economy went up .1mpg. As long as you tighten the s**t out of the clamps you wont leak exhaust or water.
