S&B CAI Help!!

Okay so I installed my S&B cold air intake on my 2008 f-150 5.4 V8 and followed all of the instructions that were included to how it was to be properly installed. I then took off to head back to school thinking that everything is fine and I noticed that it is really noisy when you accelerate hard or when the truck shifts its like it bogs down the motor???

It just seems to be loud when you are accelerating hard and when it shifts to 4th or 5th gear it seems like it bogs the motor down and is loud for some reason???

I don't know if this is common or what the "drone" noise is that I here some guys talk about?? I have an Edge installed in it on the 2nd setting so I don't think that would have any effect on it. It also seemed to lower my mileage a little bit but not enough to where it is a big change before the CAI was installed and it was just the Edge. If you guys could help me out I would greatly appreciate it because I am new to all of this CAI stuff and just don't know if that is how it is supposed to sound??

If so I think I might get rid of it because it is pretty loud when you get on it but you can definitely tell the difference with it in there so it must be working somewhat I would think???....

That's why I always recommend custom tunes with any enclosed intake. I had the S&B and Edge, too. It droned horribly at 1600-1900 RPMs. I ended up getting a custom tuned Xcal2 and it went away. As far as the other thing, I'm not too sure about that. Do you have a CEL?

It is going to be a lot louder than the stock as it has no silencer. Noise does not necessarily equate to power, when the silencer is removed.

It is not throwing a CEL (granted it has only been on there for two days). So should I just take out the intake until I get my exhaust and then just send the edge in to have custom tuned??

I just want to make sure that the drone will go away when I order a custom tune.

Also the 4th gear problem I am talking about is when you are accelerating to get up to like 60-65 (accelerating normally and nothing to aggresive), once it shifts into the gear it drones really bad and almost feels like it bogs the truck out when it drops it down to the lower rpm's after it has shifted and then once it builds up some more rpm's and gets set to the speed above on the cruise it goes away. And also if you are going up a hill and you have it in cruise and the truck needs to accelerate it will drone when accelerates to get back to the speed.

I hope that a custom tune will get rid of it because I really would like to keep it if I can get rid of what is happening once I get my exhaust and get some custom tunes??

How can they put custom tunes for what I have for add-ons??

Any other CAI's that don't drone?? Or will a drop in filter do me good enough??

Thanks

Well these trucks do not have a 5th gear for one, 4spd. Custom tune corrects everything.

Hey guys I returned the truck to the stock setting on the edge and it runs a lot better like it should, so I don't know if the canned tune messes with something that caused the bad drone because it is not near as loud and actually sounds really good....From just driving to work and around town it performs really good and I think I will just leave it at the stock setting until I get my exhaust and then get a custom tune for it?

Also my buddy was wondering if you can get custom tunes for the diablo sport chip??

Thanks guys

Well I am getting rid of the S&B because I talked to PHP and they said that there custom tuning would not get rid of the drone that I have. They also said that a drop in filter would be just as good as a CAI for my application. I think I am going to get a K&N drop in filter but they also recommended the AF1 was there first choice in CAI's because they can get rid of the noise in those and can' t seem to get rid of it with S&B's.

I bet money that custom tuning will get rid of the drone. Trust me ...

yeah, and a cai is going to produce more HP than a drop in, if thats what you are going for. and they should be able to get rid of the drone, like thump said.

My fix: Installed Magnaflow High Flow Cats and x-piped true duals. Now I can't hear the "drone" over my exhaust when I'm on the throttle.

Thats odd....I had a "drone" noise from my S&B CAI on my 2006 5.4L, and as soon as I got my custom tunes from PHP, it went away. I'm running that with SI/DO MAGGIES and my truck runs great.

So first they tell you that a drop in filter is as good as a CAI, then they turn around a say they sugest the AF1 CAI?

So you're going to get rid of your brand new cold air intake just because it makes a little noise? What ever. If it was for a 4.6, I'd take it off your hands.
