Exhaust for a 4.6

Hey everyone,
Its time I got a new exhaust on my '03 F-150 4x4. I'm hoping to keep everything under $1000. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with higher performance exhaust with the smaller V8 engine. Being that I'm in Canada, I might have to get the parts online then take them to a local shop to have them put in. Can anyone recommend a good exhaust system and a place to buy them? Can any of my Canadian brothers recommend a good exhaust shop in Calgary, AB?

Thanks

Hey man, I have a 2008 F-150 Fx2, with a SI/DO Original 40 Flowmaster Setup on my 4.6L v8. Sounds nice has a good roar to it. Whole setup costed me $330 bucks from Midas Muffler. Not sure if you have that place up in calgary but its worth to look. I got 2.5" piping with 4" chrome tips. Heres a video of the rev if you wanted to know what it sounded like.

Btw, the super44 is also another good choice. Not sure if you were looking for true-duals or a SI/DO setup. But there ya go.

Buy a 14" Magnaflow muffler, 2.5" in/out with dual outlets, have tailpipes ran, and tips of your choice within 3.5" - 4". And part # 94006 hi-flow cats to replace all factory ones.

For $1000 you can get longtubes, cats, and run true duals w/x-pipe maggie 14" 4" round bodies and the tips of your choice. You can skip the headers and the high flows and just cut the back two cats off, the pre cats will flow just as good if not better than high flows, cost less and then run true duals with the maggies and a x-pipe for well less than $1000. High flows are a waste of money!

True duals should not cost $800. My true duals mandrel bent from where the original Y was, out to the edge of the tailpipe was $230. I provided mufflers and tips. $480 all together.

Seriously. I spent $405 on the Magnaflow system 15749. (SIDO w/ 18") I ended up paying $60 for two stainless tips and had them welded on and straight (the Magnaflow pipes werent straight so the last 2 feet of either of my pipes are custom) and and its ton cheaper. True duals will run around $300-$350. Catbacks are "mandrel bent" but that really doesnt make a huge difference.

Custom jobs just make it so much easier to be exact and perfect with the dimensions. Now, I wanna change from a 18" to a 14".

Stay custom and stay wise.

Resurrect?
Been a few months since I've thought of this. (Tires can get expensive too!) Anyway, took my truck to an exhaust shop and I was quite unhappy with the the estimate. First they told me that a SIDO was a true dual exhaust system and that 2 mufflers would never fit under my truck. Next, they said if I ran dual pipes/mufflers, there was no need for an X-pipe and they won't put one in. Sounds like its time for another opinion. After doing tons of research on here I've decided to stay SISO. Less exhaust to crush when in the woods. Most of the muffler shops in town are kinda pricey so I'm going to buy the parts myself and have someone put them in. I'm hoping to order just the muffler (Magnaflow 12219) and stay 3". Anyone have any experience with this? Is there a better muffler for my needs? Should I order any other parts, maybe CATS, while I'm at it?

Also, I have an exhaust leak at the manifold. I might try to fix it myself as I'm somewhat handy with tools required for backyard mechanics. I'm told its a couple of the manifold bolts that are broken. As soon as I get a nice weekend I'm on it!

Excellent choice on the 3" single. Your exhaust shop does not know what the hell they are talking about

You don't need an x pipe for true duels..I don't have one and I have true duel 10 series flowmasters. I have got my exhaust advice from my best friend back home who races cars and trucks and does his own exhaust work.
