Flowmaster for free

My buddy is taking his flowmaster exhaust and offered to give it to me. His wife drives the truck more than he does and she can't stand it. I have no clue what series it is. I know most people around here are pro-magnaflow but my question is, will this exhaust hurt my truck in the power department, or do flowmasters just not put out as much power as mags. Thanks

free is free. the amount of power you loose or gain from an exhaust isnt enough to make a big difference. i say go for it, at least it will sound good.

Better than paying for one. I'd take it. Shop should only want $50 or so to install.

I know Maggies give you torque in numbers, but you'll barely notice it on the proven butt/seat dyno. I know after installing my true dual Magnaflow setup, I really don't feel much difference at all. It just sounds a lot better.

I have a feeling it's the same with Flowmaster and their loss of torque. Though some people claim otherwise.

Talked to a mechanic about this exact issue today, in fact. He said if you have a programmer (Edge, Gryphon, XCal2 etc) You can adjust for the losses. Add a little fuel, advance the timing a hair.

I don't think I lost any torque with my Flow 40 but I gained a little drone at about 40mph. Nothing bad, it's quiet at idle and at crusing speeds above 45 mph. I have a single in/ dual out with 3 1/2" tips. Pretty loud when you mash down on the pedal. If you can get it for free I would try it out.

On my old Chevy with true dualed Super 44s, I didn't feel any loss by the seat, but I did study my rpms before and after exhaust, they were about 250 - 350rpms higher after exhaust. Verified my low end loss and 0.8mpg loss.

Do it. The sound of the flowmaster more than makes up for the 1-2 hp difference. Sounds much throatier and aggressive than maggies IMO. You will be very happy.

Do you happen to know which muffler it is?

Ive got a flowmaster 40 series on my truck and i havent noticed any difference in terms of power torque. I love the way it sounds at about 1800 rpm it keeps a nice steady purr. If i stand on it you can really hear it too. It quiet at < 1500.

If you dont know what muffler it is, and its a cat-back, chances are its a 50 series.

If its custom, give us the measurments and a photo.
