H pipe wont hurt the performance for a truck. It does its job at combining exhaust pressure for better exhaust velocity, and creates a deeper toned sound. My Silverado had an H pipe in its true duals http://youtube.com/watch?v=tBVuER1p5JU

Cutting the rear cats out, running 2.5" true duals, and either straight pipes, or Borla mufflers, is the closest I could imagine to the 4.6 Mustang sound.
