CAI for 97-03 F150's

I'v been reading up all I can, and still can't see the best option. It looks like the AF1 makes the most hp (17-18), but probably lets more dirt and dust through than other intake kits. The K&N 77 Series is less powerful (9hp), but I have heard that it's better for the long haul.

I think the enclosed is better too. I want my truck to last as long as possible.
Don't say search cause I already did.

Could you guys tell me what intake is best for me (2000 f150 5.4L).

i installed my K&N 57 series FIPK II and i love it...If i woulda bought a brand new one i pry would have bought a 77 series or a S&B( i like the idea of a closed box as well)...i got a deal on mine and ppl told me that the open filter isn't that bad as ppl think but we'll see.

Alon did some searching for me awhile back for an enclosed CAI and didn't have much. Seems that only the newer trucks have that option. Went with the 3" AF1 instead.

Well I went with the AF1, but I made my own enclosed airbox.

Check this thread.

How did you figure or where did you hear that?

AF1 intakes use S&B filters which outperform nearly all filters in flow and efficiency, including K&N (they won't release a filter that doesn't have over a 99% efficiency rating)...

On the troyerperformace site it says you can look to get about 17-18hp with the AF1, but only in the 5.4L.

And on the K&N site they have it dyno tested for about 9hp on the 5.4L.

How can the AF1 hold off more crud if its not enclosed, I have seen the boxes covered in muck and I don't want that crap in the filter or in my engine. Could I maybe make a custom enclosure for the AF1?

I think you might could somehow, maybe have the AF1 with the stock cover still drawing air from the fender I dont know?, the only thing is, I`m not sure you will get the advertised hp gains that they say you get, but I think it would still be alot better than the stock intake, I would like to hear someone else`s opinion on this because that is the only reason I havent got the AF1 intake, I know that is the best one out there for power gains, I had one on my old truck and didnt like how much mud and dirt got on the filter so if we could come up with either a full cover or a partial cover for this intake system to keep the dirt off the filter I`ll probably get one and experiment some to see what works the best to keep the dirt out.

I'll bet its less hp too, but the amount of dirt and dust that gets in is much less, thats why its so cool. DIY is always cool too.

My top two filters and best feedback from customers is

#1 S&B
#2 AF1

Af1 uses S&b filters... if you cant see, i REALLY like S&B filters.

Right now I am doing $5 off S&B filters by using coupon code "5offSB"

The K&N 57 series uses a plastic tube and is dyno'd higher, at 15.47 HP on the stock 5.4L. Probably good for the long haul since it is CARB certified and has a lifetime warranty.

Their 77 series is the metal tube and dyno'd around 9 HP on the stock 5.4L.

I see alot of 77's why don't they just buy the other one?

I hear alot of good things about S&B aswell. I'm clueless on the Gotts intake.
