I need Muffler advice? Who thinks they know?

I have a 2006 F150 Lariat. I want good sound, but not obnoxiously loud noise. It needs to sound like a big truck, but not so like a race car. And I'd like to get good performance results. Ive been advised to go with an 18" Magnaflow w true duals and X pipe. I went on Magnaflow's website and saw a variety of different mufflers for a truck. Should I choose.....
5"x 8"oval
5"x11"oval
4"x9"oval
3.5x7"oval
?????????

I know too much about mufflers. If your willing to get true duals, then I would suggest the 18" 5x8 X piped & dualed. If not, get a si/do 3" in 2.5" out 5x8x18 muffler, and have your tailpipes ran however you would like with and buy the tips you want that are 3.5" and it will make you happy.

Exhaust alone will not gain you performance though, the engine may breathe out better but nothing noticeable, just sound.

This thread is exactly the same as your other thread. Word for word. Just bump your last thread next. That being said...

I prefer 3" SISO with the sound depending on the size and design of the muffler. Troyer Performance did a lot of testing and had the best results with a 3" SISO Magnaflow system. I purchased that system for my truck and performance wise it's perfect but it wasn't exactly the sound I was going for. It has more of a humm than it does a rumble. That can probably be fixed by going to a smaller case such as the 18" or the 14" rather than the 22" that comes in the kit. Everyone else says it sounds good as it is though. I'm actually planning on getting a Borla Pro XS muffler (14") to replace the Magnaflow (22") mainly because I want a different sound and not many people seem to be running it. A lot of people will tell you not to buy a cat back system because they're too expensive and a custom design can be run however you want. While that's true, the extra money for the cat back system is worth it to me because you get mandrel bent stainless which is other wise hard to have done at a good price.

The only thing I like better about duals is the symmetrical look of pipes coming out both sides. If you're dead set on going with the dual setup, I would say the 5x8 but in a 14" muffler case would be a good way to go since the X pipe is going to quiet the sound quite a bit and the 14" muffler should probably equal out the difference for a great sound.
