Best sounding?

I have a 94 F150 4x4 with the 4.9L straight six. I want to know the best exhaust I can put on it to get a deeper throaty sound. What type of cats, should I run it to dual, what kind of mufflers, and tips? Any info would be helpful, thanks.

I would keep it single, keep it all 2.5" with 1 Magnaflow Hi-Flow cat, a Flowmaster Super 44 ( dual outlet ), and 3.5" tips of your choice of style, & exit.

Where should I put the cat, in the spot of the first cat (closest to the motor) or the second cat or doesn't it matter. Also will this have enough back pressure so it doesnt burn my valves.

As long as you have cats & a muffler backpressure will be alright. I thought those truck only had 1 cat though, they have two? Is it in a Y pipe configuration? Since your block is an I6 I'm a little confused, then again I dont know much about the 96 & older exhausts. If one cat is big & long & ones small & round, that small one is most likely just a resonator which just kills the sound volume, does not do the role of a cat.

I believe that may be it, one is smaller but idk if it's round because the heatshield is oval shaped. One is before the front axle then one is after. The one before the axle being smaller.

I also have another question, I was talking a buddy of mine who will be helping me with my exhaust and he was wondering if you had any ideas on making his 2.9L 4x4 ranger sound any better.

Sounds like a resonator. It would be nice if a 96- owner would chime in & verify that but thats what i'm thinking. You can ditch it if you would like. It will volume up a little bit more.

Well.. thats a tough call, V6s & 4cyls never sound that great to me atleast. But a basic muffler swap with tailpipes ( si/do ) can louden it up. Most 6s sound better after a cat gutting or Hi-Flow cat. With it stock it doesn't sound at all that good.

As for a muffler, Cherrybombs sound great on V6s. Flowmaster 40 series can too, and the Magnaflow mufflers arent that bad either.
