Exhaust for my truck

My complete plan is to install a flowmaster like muffler and have it dumped. My friends dad has this on his 06 F150 5.4 and it sounds great and isnt very loud in the cab. I have an 05 F150 5.4l as well. I am looking to purchase a muffler online and have it installed locally. I have done this in the past and it has been a lot easier on the wallet. What I want to know is what series flowmaster should I get? Also what is the inlet and outlet size I need for my truck. I want a single in/ dual out muffler. I have also heard that there is a generic flowmaster called a flowpro and it sound the same. I want something that is not too expensive and sounds good. Any input would be great.

its 2.5" piping all the way i believe. flowpro is one of the knock-offs, as is thrush, you can get a thrush Si/Do muffler from advance for like $25. i would just stay with 2.5" piping myself, others will probably say different.

I too searched and searched and ended up with a 3.0" SI/2.5 DO FM Original 40 w/2.5" dual pipes out the back with 3.5" tips, sounds great! I don't think you will notice any significant difference in the sound/performance between the various 40 series FM's so get whichever 40 series you like. According to what I have read the Super 44 is supposedly the loudest. Also, if all you are going to do is dump it, SI/SO may work better. They are usually cheaper to buy and many will tell you that a 3"SI/SO will yield more power than a SI/DO setup. If you go SI/DO like you said you want, get the 3"SI/2.5"DO. If you go SI/SO, get 3"SI/SO. I have heard about a brand called Flowsound that is supposedly significantly cheaper to purchase and does like it says, sounds like a FM.

Other mufflers that will sound like a Flowmaster 40 series:

- MAC Flowpath
- Pypes Pro-V
- Flowtech Afterburner
- Edelbrock Chambered Muffler
- IMCO Chambered Muffler
- Cherry Bomb Pro
- Basically any 2-Chambered Muffler

I would go with a super 40 or super 44 and as far as tubing i would use 3 inch in and 2.50 dual out also the longer and bigger the tip it makes it alittle more throaty

Well today I splurged and went to get exhaust. I ended up getting a flowmaster 40 series and I had the pipes dumped or turned down. It sounds great!! best $ spent! It sounds really throaty and there was a slight increase in torque.

Below is a picture, though nothing fancy it may explain what I had installed. Thanks for everyones input. I am glad I went with a actual flowmaster, then a generic. I wasnt sure if the generic would give me the sound I was looking for.

Bummer you didn't get the Super 44. That sounds & performs the best but 40s still sound good. I dont know why people dump si/do mufflers.. I can see how it makes it easier for future tailpipes but I never really understood it lol.

Well the guy who did it said the same thing about the si/do. I got the si/do just in case I change my mind and want tailpipes.
