reving

Today my buddy asked me to rev up my truck and it sounded like crap. All i could hear was the engine i could barley hear the pipes. I have a 5.4L v8 with straight pipe. When im riding down the street it sounds great. Could anyone explain why it sounds like crap when i rev it

Does it sound like crap when you just rev it a little bit or only when you rev it to like 5000rpm?

haha when i rev it it just sounds super super loud and then when i hit over 4,000 RPMS and let off its all poppy and stuff....But then again i have true duals with LT's and dynomax 3" Mufflers dumped But i noticed i like the sound of my truck in Drive getting on it past 3,000RPMS over reving it...Something to do with the Tranny and a load or something... Asking the wrong person but thats my guess. When it has a load of pushing the truck it makes a differnt sound

i have pacesetter Long tubes into dynomax 3" bullets dumped True duals and i love it!!! oh and i have cut-outs on there just for when i want people to hear me miles away...Look at the video in my sig Thats pacesetter shorties with a down pipe! haha

When i took my cut-outs off today stuff in my truck was vibrating like 2 15's were hitting all the plastic and my mirror was vibrating haha and people about a mile away said they heard my truck haha

OPEN HEADERS IS FUN!!!! Cut-outs makes it more fun because 6 Wing nuts and i have open headers 6 Wing nuts back on and i can hear my self think

I'd think it'd be something like what shifty mentioned, about there being a load on the engine when in drive, as opposed to when you're just reving it.

Mine does the same thing. Granted, I only have a muffler swap, but it's still the same thing happening, all enging noise, no exhaust (unless it's a cold start, then it sounds decent.)

yea im pretty sure its like everybosy says. when the truck is moving, the engine is have to work harder to move the truck due to traction. mine does the same thing. when i rev it, i think im in a ricer(i have a V6 with dual magnaflow), but when im on the road, it has a low, almost V8 sound, due to my CAI. its kinda like when you grunt without exerting energy, it sound different when your actually lifting something heavy.

hope that helps.
