Just Installed Roush OR Exhaust - First Impressions

Just finished installing my Roush OR exhaust kit on my 07 5.4L Supercab. Got the system from Mike Roth @ Woodhouse for $430 + shipping. Here are a few impressions/notes:

- Before getting this kit, I debated getting the street legal version. After hearing the OR version, there is no question that I made the right decision - I would definitely not want an aftermarket system to sound any quieter. It is actually not as loud as I was expecting...cruising along at 60 MPH you can barely hear it. It does get much louder when you step on it! The WOT sound is definitely what I was looking for!

- Install time was about 3 hrs. I wasn't expecting to have to take the rear spring perch apart...added a bit more time. If I had to install the kit again, I could probably shave an hour off that time.

- The kit finish was nice however, one of the exhaust tips wasn't flanged out for easy install (one was and the other one wasn't...they are both the same part number!). I had to take a cut-off wheel and cut two groves down either side of the tip just to get it over the pipe.

- Final adjustments will come tomorrow when it is light - definitely gotta make sure that the tips are symmetrical.

- I'm not a big fan of the rubber brackets that go on the rear hangers. I think this might give the system a bit of play to bounce around while you drive - I would have been a bit happier if they included something more rigid. Maybe there is a benefit to the rubber hangars but it is gonna drive me crazy if someone driving behind my truck notices that the exhaust doesn't seem solidly hooked to the truck.

That's about it for now. I'll get some pictures and video with sound within the next few days.

Looking forward to some pics!

And it WILL get a bit louder after a couple thousand miles or so. Trust me, I thought my Borla was almost too quiet, now it's perfect.

Congrats! I know I love mine!

As for the rubber isolators, your exhaust won't be bouncing anywhere, unless your clamps are loose.

I also don't appreciate that fact of the rubber rear mounts, I find that my tips actually move a bit once in awhile. One of these days I'm gonna gut my cats and get everything welded in place. I love the sound but I want it just a bit louder.

Curious about the rear spring perch part? All I had to do was remove the nuts from the rear bolts and put in the hangers. Took all of 5 min. My total install only took an hour, which was longer than expected because I realized I ordered the wrong kit for my '04 when I got it and I didn't have the intermediate pipe and had to cut up some of the original piping to make it fit.

Congrats on the purchase.

I would also like to see the pics of how the tail pipes are routed.

Thanks Stealth! Did you take out two of the cats or did your truck just have two? Also whoever welded the tips on is an awesome welder. That is a perfect weld!

OK, here is a picture of the final product:

It looks like Stealth and LariatSCrew04 both had it easy! I think the rear spring perch bolt is actually reversed on the 06 and newer models. The Roush instructions actually tell you that on 06 models, the bolt has to be removed and flipped. Since I had an 07 model, I assume it is the same but when I reinstalled the bolt, I put it in the same way it came from the factory...just to be sure everything was good. See the picture below, my bolt is actually 180 degrees different from the earlier versions...I had to completely remove the bolt to mount the hangar.

Also, I just uploaded a video with sound to youtube so you can hear what it sounds like on a 5.4L engine w/ S&B CAI:

Next stop, Troyer Tuned XC3.

I agree, the rubber on the kit is very very tough

you want slight movement in the exhaust pipes because the engine is on rubber mounts and as it torques it tends to rock side to side, twisting your exhuast

I think mine only has two, but I have only seen the two visible in the pics, haven't looked to see if there are two more before the two. Clear as mud.
