Does cold air intake void warranty?

I was just told today by a mechanic who was inspecting my truck that my cold air intake Roush. Would Void my Warranty. Is this True I Did ask my dealership that I bought the truck from if it would void warranty before I bought the intake and they told me No it would not void warranty. But That dealership recently sold the business. So I asked my new dealership and they said they have heard yes and No. could not get a straight answere. Does anyone have any experience with this???? Thanks

the only way it can truly void the warrentee is if the CAI causes some sort of problem on the engine. then they will not cover it. but if your AC goes out or your gears start to die then they will still be covered becuase the CAI did not directly affect either of those problems. the mechanic was probebly just covering his ***.

I asked Roush performance directly and they told me that It will Not void warranty because I am not Modifying the computer. Only can void warranty if cai was cause of failure. And that being said they have never seen engine blow from result of CAI.

It really doesn't matter what Roush or anyone besides Ford has to say about it. If a Ford dealer declares your warranty void you will have a fight on your hands. The burden of proof is on Ford to prove that the aftermarket part caused the failure of the warranted part. Once things have gone this far you better have a good lawyer on retainer.

I was told by my dealer friday that a programmer or a CAI will void the warranty. I think it must just depend on the dealer. Also that was a service writer that told me that.

When I took my truck to get its service and everything. I asked the guys there if it would void warranty and they told me NO unless it was the cause of the engine problem which would be really hard to prove. But they said they take trucks in with CAI's and warranty was still covered.

I agree with kd. It all depends on your relationship with the dealer. Sometimes, if it's a bad enough problem that they don't want to mess with, they'll blame it on the CAI. Or if they want to screw you out of more money since Ford won't pay them as much for a warranty repair as they can charge to a customer. I was told once that a lift doesn't void a warranty, bigger tires do, so it all gets lost in translation. My advice, keep the original intake, if you have to take your truck to the shop, exchange your intake if you're that worried about it. I'm not sure on an intake, but, I know that once you take your truck to the shop with a tuner and they deny your warranty because of it, it gets logged into a database and won't get covered at any dealership. Happened to my buddys' Powerstroke with the Edge and heavy left foot. Getting ready to replace his third tranny in an '04 with 65K.

It all depends on the dealership, and unfortunately the service writer. I had a good hookup at my local ford dealership, service writer told me to do whatever I wanted on my mustang. I did an intake, tune, gears, drop kit and they never said a word. Unfortunately that service writer quit, so I had to go to a dealership a few towns over for all my services after that.

Since my truck is getting lifted and geared I might have to go to the friendly dealership a few towns over. I have been doing a few minor things at the local dealership to keep them happy though, hopefully that will help if I need to go there for anything. Had my windows tinted there, will have a hitch installed there, and other small upgrades to get a good relationship going.

If it's a Ford warranty then you have a good chance that your warranty will remain intact. If you have third party warranty, then I suggest you read the contract very well. As me how I know, go ahead. In then end, unless you have a lot of time on your hands, you lose. The fact of the matter is, they're getting paid to argue with you while you have to spend your free time AFTER you get off work trying to resolve an issue that shouldn't even be an issue in the first place. Your time and patients will eventually run out.
