1997 F150 V6 O2 Sensor

Can anyone help me out here? I need to get my Oxygen sensor changed but it will cost me $250- $300 to have a shop do it. I know I have two sensors that are located just past the motor on the exhaust. Is there another one? does anyone have a picture of where it might be?

You might want to back up and explain WHY you think you need new O2 sensors.

There are common fault codes that would seem to implicate the sensors, however, the sensors are NOT the problem.

Give your original symptoms first.

O2 Sensor

I Went To Get A Smog Only Check The Check Engine Light Came On And Produced A Code That Read Bank 2 Sesor 1 Responding Slowly Or Poorly. I Also Have 126000 Miles And They Have Never Been Replaced. Do They Need To Be Replaced Every 100000 Miles?

You've got 4 O2 sensors man. Two in front of the pre-cats and two behind the second set of cats. Get a code read at Autozone, O'Reilly or somewhere similar and post it up.

General rule of thumb is switch the sensors from one side to the other and see if the problem follows the sensor. If it does, replacing the faulty one will fix the problem, but replacing them both will ensure you're not right back in it again soon.

EDIT - Bank 2 sensor one is the passenger side precat O2 sensor.

Before you go replacing them, pull them out and clean them. Sometimes carbon deposits will prevent them from working properly. Taking steel wool or a wire brush to them will get the carbon deposits off.

Reinstall it, disconnect the battery, turn the headlight switch on for 20 minutes and after the OBD2 system is reset, reconnect the battery and see if the codes come back.
