Has anyone tried this with an 04 + 5.4? I just took the end section that tappers down to a smaller size off the intake tube on my truck. It feels like it LOST power and throttle response. What a bummer. How can a 3" opening be worse than the 2" opening that it nipples down to? Any ideas????

Did you put another bigger piece onto the airbox that goes back into the fenderwell? If not you are drawing in hot air from the engine bay rather than the much cooler air from inside the fender

Now that you've had the mod for a while, what are your results?

I'm getting 28-30mpg on the highway (texas @ 60mph night time) and around 19mpg in town consistantly

but I've got tranny mods, 3.73 gears, 24# injectors, underdrivepulleys, cat back and a custom tune

with this mod the truck runs better than when I had the K&N cai on it

Tried this intake mod on a tank of gas. Idle seemed to lope a lot when coming to a stop, and got worse gas mileage. think ill put the stock tube back on. 2002 4.6 with 112,000 miles.
Put the original tube back on, idle came back to normal, no loping and a lot smoother. Guess my truck no likey intakey mod.....

I did same thing with less work, i took that rubber ring that was around the stock snorkel off, and glued it to my 3" rubber coupler.
