Any drawbacks of cutouts?

do cutouts have any drawbacks, b/c from what ive been reading they just give that straight pipe sound when put in front of the muffler, and increase airflow. does it suck on the gas or anything? what are the pros and cons?

None that I know of...although I hear they are pretty loud, but unless thats a problem. However I doubt that cause thats probably what you are looking for.

I'm not sure if inspections will give you a hard time though, unless you don't them?

i had another question too...if i got the manual cutout, could i just mount an electric on to that? cuz most the electrics i've seen seem to be just covers for the y-pipe...

Im not real sure about the putting an electric on a manual? not sure that that would work but def. dont get the manuals...they tend to leak and then that will give you a pain in the A for inspections and not to mention the spots on your driveway....From what i hear they electrics are much more friendlier and tend not to leak...They make a cap-off plate that you simply bolt over the butterfly and you shouldnt have any problems with inspections or emissions testing. Oh ya i ordered me one the other day it will be here wed!

There will always be the possibility of leak issues with electric cutouts due to the motor/butterflies failing. I've heard some brands are more reliable than others though.

so im thinking that going with a manual cutout might be the way to go since i go offroad, its cheaper, and i can get a cover for the manual to prevent the leaks with that. unless anyone has any other opinions?.?.

so i keep changing my mind...i just found a heavy duty fully stainless electric cutout...
http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...57985_-1_11529
and this doesn't come with the exhaust dump...so the question is does every exhaust dump with the 3bolt pattern fit the electric cutout?

i went with a manual right before the muffler. If you have a credible exhaust shop fab you one up and use gaskets there should be no problems with leaks.

In my opinion electric cutouts are a waste of money unless you buy the ones that are 300-400 dollars. I had a buddy that had a pair on his C5 Corvette and the motors burnt out after two weeks of use.

I've heard more people having leak problems from their electric cut outs than anything else. I have a manual and I love it. I've had it for about 6 months and no leaks what so ever. I highly recommend the manual because of the price and my personal experience with them. I paid 28 bucks from summit.
