AF1 Installed

Well I finshed up the installation this evening of my AF1 intake and then took the truck for a drive on the interstate. All I can say is WOW!!! Sitting in the driveway and then driving to the interstate I didn't notice that much of a difference, a little more responsive under acceleration, but not the wow factor. I got onto the interstate and pushed the gas and the truck took off. No more truck struggling to get up to speed. I am thoroughly impressed with the new intake and highly recommend it to anyone even thinking about it.

I have no doubt that when I am on the interstate and need that extra little kick to get around a slow driver or an 18 wheeler that the AF1 will deliver it. I cannot wait to combine the new intake with my Xcal II and Troyer tunes. Here's a few pics;

Trust me when I tell you that if I can do this install anyone can. The instructions that came with the intake were very easy to follow.

Looks like a nice set up. Is that one that must be custom tuned to be used or can you just toss it in and go?

Is this set up better for those of us who live on dusty country roads? Or are the closed box style like the S&B better? My #1 priority is keeping the find dust particles out vs trying to squeeze out every last tenth of a horsepower.

Thanks

Mine is the 3" tube that does NOT have to have the custom tunes to use. I ordered it on the 15th and got it last night (Troyer was awaiting a new shipment so part of the dely in my shipment, but still thought less than 2 weeks from order to install is pretty good). It took me about 2 - 21/2 hours to install and I'm not at all mechanically inclined. I do have custom tunes on order, but like everyone who orders from Mike I am now on the waiting list. My main reason for ordering the 3" tube was so I didn't have to return the intake to stock everytime I wanted to return the truck to stock for those trips to the dealership.

As far as which is better I really couldn't tell you, but all I can say is the AF1 is worth every penny I spent on it.

So my question now is how often does the filter need to be reoiled and how do you know when there's enough oil? I'm thinking about buying a second filter so when I remove this one for oiling I can put the other one on and then allow this one to sit before having to put it back on. I have heard over oiling is not good for the MAF.

I sort of remember my older K&N's having a sticker saying every 50K or something like that. Follow the cleaning/re-oiling instructions and you should be fine. A little goes a long way when it comes to filter oils.

Does this Troyer guy have a website or something? I'm interested in getting just an intake system and no custom tunes or any chips or anything like that. I'd rather have a paper style filter though as opposed to the oiled kind -- I had a drop-in K&N and noticed some dust in my intake tube on my old Ranger after only 1,000 miles with it in there so I took it off and sold it on ebay.

Just installed the AF1 this afternoon (ordered from Troyer Performance).. it looks great - I'll take some pics in a bit - and the induction sound is sweeeet!!.. Took about an hour to do with a friend there reading the instructions out to me and double checking everything.. only driven about 10 miles on a 50 mph road, but I'll hit I-35 for a cruise later and see what happens when I get the revs up..

BTW, the quality of that kit is outstanding!!

Ok, I'm a bit confused. On the AF1 website they show a 3.5" tube is the one needed for a 04+ 5.4L, which your truck is, yet you say that you're using the 3" one. Is this because the 3.5" does need a custom tuning and that you can still use the 3" on a 5.4 and not need a tune.

I don't trust the accuracy of that site anyway - it also shows the F150 as having 32 valve V8's LOL!

Bottom line: 3" - no tuning required; 3.5" - tuning required. Both are indeed available. 3.5" option only available for 5.4L 3V.
