Yeah, they give the 4.6 32 valves. Good stuff...

But I guess that means I won't be getting the 3.5 then.

But first, what kind of tuning is involved and what would the consequences be of not tuning it with the 3.5?

I'd be using this with an Edge on Level 2. Right now there's a couple of 3.5's in the classifieds. I'm getting tired of waiting for the Outlaw intake.

Thanks for your help.

Hey Stu;

Consequences - you will be running dangerously lean with a 3.5" AF1 without a custom tune to provide the correct MAF transfer function (TF) that the PCM needs to accurately interpret the output from the MAF for that specific intake.

TP has already developed several TF's for the various aftermarket intakes ( K&N for example); that's how they can provide a safe baseline tune with the "big" AF1 right out of the box.

Of course, since many other factors can affect this, not the least of which is the predilection some of these late-models have of running lean from the factory, TP advises datalogging to make 100% sure things are copacetic.

The Edge, not having the ability to provide the fine granular control over the TF, cannot safely compensate for the 3.5" AF1, or any other intake where the TF deviates from stock.

To my knowledge, the only intakes that have been proven to be safe are the 3" AF1, AirRaid, and the 'new' S&B. There may be others - please contact TP for that info. Previous caveats on truck-to-truck variances apply.

Hope that helps.

Cheers
Bubba

Ok, Thanks for that.
It sounds like I better rule out the 3.5 for now. That Transfer Function tuning sounds serious.
Too bad, the dude was selling it for $125 @ 5 months old.

You don't have to wait for the new Outlaw intake. I got it with the standard cotton filter, they have those in stock now! You only have to wait if you want the NeverOil filter. By the way, doesn't the AF1 use the cotton filter anyway?

I have installed many intakes on most of the vehicles that I have owned and on friends vehicles over the years. This Outlaw Power intake is one of the best overall. The built in FULL velocity stack inside the filter is a very nice touch. I'll write up a little review soon but for now I can definitely recommended it, 5 stars.

Call Outlaw Power and tell them that you want the cotton filter. They'll ship it out right away. Get it on your truck!

Troyer review of Outlaw intake?

Any word on Troyer's take on the Outlaw intake? Was set on the AF1 but, given recent posts, am curious about the Outlaw now.

I installed my AF1 yesterday.Easy installation and great quality part.I can't really tell a diff down low but the midrange and top end power is alot better.I can tell a major diff after about 3,000rpms when you start to get on it.The sound is a little louder than it was but not bad.As an offset after driiving a short distance my gas mileage has gone up .7mpg according to the edge.It used to hang around 17.5 and now its at 18.2 average and i expect it to gain more after driving farther. All in all i am very happy with it
