K&n Air Filter! Love It!!
K&n Air Filter! Love It!!
I JUS INSTALLED MY NEW K&N FILTER ON MY 97 4.6 LITER 4X4 AND MAN DID IT MAKE A DIFFERENCE. I JUS POPPED IT IN IN PACE OF THE OLD NASTY ONE AND IT GOES. IT WAS DEFFINATELY WORTH THE $50 I SPENT ON IT
A K&N drop in replacement filter doesn't requiring anything special. Just install it in place of your oem filter and go. It's a great mod for $40-50, and will pay for itself after a few cleanings instead of having to buy replacements.
A drop-in is fine, but it does not gain any power, period. Except if, as noted above, the original filter was spooged
Here's a link to an aftermarket filter company - even they admit it...

yeah i had on in my 2000 f150 5.4L i didnt notice much of a difference but i noticed MAYBE 1mpg highway... not really worth it, i would go right to the k&n series 77 cai.. i currently have this installed way better than just the replacement filter!!
The first maintenance item that was done when I got my 98 Exp was to change the intake filter to the K&N unit. I did notice a performance boost pretty quickly in daily driving. However I did remove the "Bong" filter housing that came on the truck which houses the filter. I affixed the K&N Filter directly to the air intake filter connector hose in the engine bay. I had intended to supercharge the engine, but as of now that has not been done.My unit is also fitted with the Flowmaster 40 muffler (removed from my Bronco prior to having it scrapped), and a 2.5" stainless steel piping system installed from the cats on back. It seems to have made the meager horsepower available from the 4.6Ltr tolerable ( in the Exp.)
