Question My CAI install terror

so i bought a S&B cold air intake from ebay.. (new) and it was from parts store on there.. but anyways.. i bought it and when it shipped.. i installed it a few days later.. (friday last week.)

but heres where it all went wrong

as i have removed all stock parts.. i start assembling the new intake.. and instaling.. allmost all the way through, i find out when its time to re-install the mass air flow sensor, that the 06 model is diff then the 05.. and i thought i t had heard about some elses story like this before i bought mine.. so i made sure i boght a 06 compatible intake..

well i called them asap and told them the problem i encountered and that i could have sworn that i saw on the listing that it was for 04-06 f150.. so they are goin to return it or exchange it for the right model whcih doesnt come instcok for a week or two..

*****ty.. i kno.. so my question is.. since i paid 210 for this one shipped.. should i just wait for that one to come or should i return it and get a different brand? and what do u recomend and the costs?..

o appreciate u reading my sob story and for any advice u can give on a a new intake!

Sorry to hear about that man, i sent back my k&n i just didnt like it and couldnt kill the loud noise at every shift point. I have been lookin at volant (possibly w/ the ram air feature) or the banks (expensive). they only bad i have read about the volant would be it can be loud (?) and a post by troyer that said something to the effect it loses power at higher rpms. Ill try to find that post for you to clarify what he said exactly. Im leaning twords the banks, i just like the design more, the only problem is nobody has one so i dont really know of any problems it could have. I dont think either system are terrible, many people run the volant w/ no problems.
did you want enclosed, or open filter? i have never heard of s&b. if you liked the design of the s&b id say wait and if not explore other options
The only thing good is when your putting back on the stock intake it dont take near as long to put it all back together as it did to take it all apart.

Illl have to check out the s&b i didnt know it was enclosed. I prefer enclosed b/c of how dirty my engine is and it looks like i get alot of water up in there. Hopefully you can get it all ironed out!

I was looking at the S&B, Volant and Banks. I think they all look good and I had to go with a sealed system. The Banks seemed to be too pricey, and I hadn't heard anything at all about the S&B. I hadn't heard lot of people talking about Volant, but the ones that did, owned them and liked them, so I went with the Volant. The S&B, when replaced, might turn out to be a nice intake for you. I just like the idea of a seald system.

hey f150 b.f.d.m have you seen this intake from sb, its just like the banks? what do you think? they call it their performance intake, and then they show the regular cai like on autoanything.

I have a volant in mine, and the only noise that I get out of it is just before shift into second. It gives a little vibration I guess, it is hard to explain the sound, but it is not that bad..for me anyway. Volant has been discussed on here before and some use sound dampening materials on the inside of the box to cut down on that noise at shift points. Other than that I really like the look of the intake and the price was acceptable to me.

I priced the volant for like 250 yesterday from autoanything, are you a 4.6 or a 5.4 though?. are you not goin to stay w/ the sb intake?

alright, autoanything is always sending out these emails w/ discounts or w/e. some of them are cheesy, but they dont show a volant for the 4.6L or am i just not looking in the right place? Im contemplating the sb performance intake, what was your overall impression though?

here is the email discount code thing if you want it idk if you get them or not, EJA070232

EDIT: if you go back to the 05 model year it shows a 4.6L

hum. .I left a response to your other thread.

Im thinking of goin w/ the sb or banks, nobody has them so that is what makes me skeptical. the banks cost alot and is just like the sb one (almost) did the sb have feet ( like the airraid intake tube to support it before it attaches to the tb, or was it like the k&n that is free standing?) I should stop bein a chiken and just be different and get one of the two . . ahhh choices. .

Have you thought of the aem brute force intake? When I finally have the funds that's the intake I'm going with. It has a dry flow filter which means no oily residue to foul the sensor.
