What would yall do?
Air intake suggestions
Im in the market for some kind of intake and have been searching and reading up on all the various brands, pros, cons, etc. .etc. .Today after i got my oil changed as i was cleaning my airfilter I noticed how dirty my engine bay was and how it seems that alot of water gets in. I have looked at the volant and banks intakes (closed box/filter), the k&n and AF1. I like the performance that could be had w/ the AF1 and possibly the k&n, but i also like the idea of keeping the filter enclosed like the banks and volant. I have been lookin into CAI for a while, but now that i have my edge to go along w/ the exhaust id like to get a CAI to add to the performance. Id just like to hear from yall. Anything is great, recommendations, suggestions, or advice from you knowledgable folks around this site!
Here is the filter before i cleaned it today (3k since last clean)

air intake
FX4life,I have the Gen.2,77series intake kit on my truck. It has the heat shield and when the hood is closed it is sealed on all sides so no water enters the filter. The performance is excellent and the fuel economy didn't suffer at all. I'm partial to the K&N,there are many good kits out there. As far as your dirty engine bay get a couple cans of Gunk and start cleaning. You can scrub the real dirty areas w/a parts brush.I've read in this forum you can get spray on tire foam cleaner, spray it on,let it dry and it looks brand new.The only draw back is that it attracts alot of dust.Hope this helps, good luck.
FX4life,
I researched for almost 3 months before I decided on the Volant CAI. Cost a little more than the typical non boxed versions but well worth it. I couldn't get the optional Ram Air Scoop for my model year truck but you can. My friend has a Dodge pickup with the Volant CAI and scoop and we did some time trials with/without the air scoop and my laptop hooked up to his OBD-II terminal while he drove on the same stretch of pavement over and over again. We were able to knock off a full second when the air scoop was hooked up during 1/4 mile runs and about 0.5 sec during 0-60 times. A little bit of improvement that is always better than none!
Get the Volant CAI, keeps filter cleaner and is truly getting air outside the engine bay area.

thanks for the input guys, I decided to go w/ the k&n 77 series. I have also had nothing but good luck w/ k&n so we will see how it goes. I have never had a cai. As for the engine bay Ill get after cleaning it up when it warms up. Thanks Guys
I'd take your truck over to a dyno to check your A/F ratio once you install your new intake. There have been cases where a new intake can cause the engine to run lean. Better safe than sorry.
