Exhaust Opinion

I have an 03 Expedition 4.6 and want to get something that sounds a little better put on. I talked to a reputable shop and they recommended a Flowmaster 70 and a stainless tip on the stock pipe (I think its 2 3/4) for $250, or I could get the gibson cat back for $309 + shipping. This is the family ride so I dont want something really loud and annoying, but something to help out performance a little and get a tuned sound at the same time.

That's the reason I went with the Magnaflow cat-back. It's not overly loud, but you know it's there when you get on it.

I would not recomend the gibson swept side almost no performance or sound difference on my 2000 f150 4.6. just my opinion

you get what you pay for

250 for welding a muffler? thats BS . . the muffler costs them 40 at most for cost, 10 bucks for the tip . .

gibson is a paltry product

magnaflow is honestly your best option for power and moderate sound and worth saving for

Thats a bunch of bull that 250 for the muffler and tip, I paid 300 for a flowmaster muffler with dual rear exit, tips, and all the welds. I'd look to another shop

Go to www.hottexhaust.com and use the coupon code "fordtruck8" and you can get the Maggie SI/SO for like $407 shipped. That's only 50 bucks more, but much better quality and performance!

I agree with Flashbang,

I paid $407 shipped from www.hottexhaust.com for a Magnaflow Stainless Steel catback for my 02 Expy.

I love it, great system, easy install took a little over 1.5hrs has really good sound, quite idle and cruise but when you put your foot into it sounds sweet.

Call and speak to John and give him the coupon "fordtruck8" you won't be sorry.

And it's all Stainless!!

I did it in my driveway, but a sawsall comes in very handy for cutting the old exhaust tubing right behind the old muffler to remove it, thats the only cut thats needed. The hangers for the new exhaust are in the stock locations and pretty easy to put on.

If you're getting muffler work done at a muffler shop and they're putting a new muffler in, they should definately be replacing the pipes too...this way you can get them to run the pipes wherever you want to get whatever sound you want...if you want loud, cut 'em off...if you want quiet, take 'em as far back as you can...

And personally, I'd go with the flowmaster line of mufflers...you can go to their website and listen to sound clips to find out exactly what you want...they even have a graph to show you the difference in exterior and interior sound levels...i think that flowmaster's been at it longer and makes a better product than most (and I said most not all) other muffler companies out there...and I (and again I said "I") think they have a better tone and sound than the magnaflows...to me it sounds more like a truck...

Good luck...do some research...and be happy with what you go with..._motes

Have you heard our trucks in person with a Magnaflow cat-back?? I've had experience with both systems on two different vehicles. I've had Mustangs with Flows and with Maggies. And I've also had trucks with Flows and Maggies.

I hands-down like the magnaflow better. Plus the fact that the Maggies are a straight through design which gives better performance. Rather than rob torque like the baffles of the flows. But that's just me.

Well, I did my research and made the decission to get a 3" flowmaster 70 put on the stock 2 3/4" tubing with a 4" magnaflow SS tip for $220. I am very happy with the results as I didnt want anything too loud. This gives me a nice rumble as cruising speeds and a sound that makes me smile everytime I get on it. It actually sounds like I have a V8 now. I decided against the magnaflow because of all the posts I read about the "drone" sound at 2000rpm and decided against the 3" tubing because I read from several people that they lost a little highway power. Everyone has different opinions right? Besides, even with the magnaflow discount, it would have been an extra $180. Ill put that into a CAI.

Congrats on the new exhaust man
And just as a note I'm not so sure about the maggies sounding better than the flows cause i've heard several trucks same as mine and they don't even come close to sounding as powerful as mine. But it all comes down to what you like.
