I cut my muffler out and put a piece of flex pipe in....Left the cats for now. It made it louder and I didnt loose any power. It sounds really nice

I cut the muffler out 2 years ago drove it 6 months liked the sound...Blew the motor up fourwheelin in July of last year...got it runnin about 2 months ago and now don't really care for it. It sounds like the cats have somehow hollowed out now and is really got a "blowing sound" coming out of the tip of the exhaust. Next step is to get a flowmaster 50 series, its the loudest they make that is intended for street use. Hopefully it sounds loud cause my truck now is real loud.

Try a 40 series bub.
And straightpipes would sound awesome, I want to do it soon, but am having second thoughts because I tow a boat a lot right now, and on a loooong highway trip, the resonating gets kinda loud on the loooong hills.

I put a straight section in to replace the muffler on my '05 5.4. It's not too loud, really like the sound, even seemed to help the torque, esp. after the XC2. Trailered race car to Phoenix last year & it wasn't too loud. My buddy liked it so much he did it to his '01 5.4.

I have true dual straight pipes also, love the sound. I had a si/do flowmaster and it wasn't very loud. Just ordered some high-flow magnaflow cats! It should be really loud once I get those welded in.
