Exhaust Help -- PLEASE -- Magnaflow 11385
Yeah this is a double post, but no one seems to answer aftermarket exhaust questions in the aftermarket section....
I think I have decided to go with the Magnaflow 11385 muffler. It's a DI/DO(2.25"/2.25") with the Tru-X crossover built in. I will be, of course, eliminating the stock y-pipe.
I have 2 questions regarding this setup.

I have 2 questions regarding this setup.
1. Does muffler placement effect performance and or sound? For instance, should I put the muffler as close to the cats as possible?
2. Does the length of the output pipes effect performance and or sound? I would like to exit the pipes BEFORE the rear tire. I'm assuming shorter pipes would make it louder, but I am concered that ending the pipes too early could kill my exhaust velocity resulting in lost bottom end.
Thanks for any help.

I can't answer you specifically but, recently I had the True X and Manaflow high flow cats installed, and deleted the rear cats. The tail pipes are cut and angled down just ahead of the rear bumper, hidden. The muffler looks to be close to where the original was, as are the cats.
This set up has improved the low end torque a good bit.
The down side for me is the sound level. There is a pretty constant drone in the cab, but it doesn't seem too bad driving by. I Dynamatted the back wall and floor, and that has made it tolerable, and I plan on doing the doors when I have time ..... that should do it for me. Of course, I am not a loud exhaust guy anyway.
It does sound great with the pedal down.

Heh...ok. Well the Thru-X muffler comes in different sizes. I'm looking at the 14" muffler. I like a loud exhaust, and although I prefer minimal drone I don't really mind it.
My Mustang had an offroad prochamber and flowmaster 40s and it was loud on the outside and at 1800-2000 rpms it rattled your brain on the inside.

ONELOWF, what do you consider to it being loud in the cab, to where you can sightly hear it (a 1) or to where it seems like you are on the outside near the tail pipes (a 10). Can you give me a 1 to 10 rating on crusing and accelerating as to how loud it is in the cab. I am wanting something louder then just my SIDO flowmaster with stock cats, but I want it to where you can carry on a conversation without having to raise your voice. Also where did you get this Dynamatted stuff and how much was it?
i just heard the true duals yesterday with a maggie.
I must say I like the sound of mine a little more. Much deeper.

Under hard acceleration the sound from the exhaust and engine seem to be nearly balanced, front to rear and about a 7. It sounds great.
Even at the pre-Dynamat level of 4, it was not so loud that you had to really raise your voice to carry on a conversation.......just a droning sound.
You might want to try just replacing the cats, before you change it all, that alone will be louder.
I actually used a product called Hush Mat.....Dynamat is a more popular brand. It took 64 sq. feet to do my back wall and floor, reg cab...... the stuff is stupid expensive. The doors will be another 32 sq. ft. Give it a google.
kr1mson - My Tru X is actually 22".
Thanks ONELOWF, I think I will get one if it will fit behind the torsion bar, because I want it as centered and as close to the engine as possible. That is what I have been told to get the most out of the low end torque anyway.
