What exhaust should i go with?

I am having a tough time deciding what exhaust to get for my truck. 04 Supercrew FX4. I was thinking dual cat back split rear. If i did that, it would probably be flowmaster. But i really like the gibson supertruck side exhaust, not to mention stainless steel for under $400. Any recomendations???

The brand is going to make two differences, sound and price. Unless you're in a snow prone area where the roads are covered in salt during the winter, a stainless exhuast is a waste of money. You ever crawl under there and point it out to buddies? I don't, who gives a chit about shiney metal underneath?

Flowmaster has by far the best tone. Borla has the highest price. Gibson is, well its Gibson.

Talk about daunting... all the choices. After a year and a half I chose a Volant. I got an exceptional price on it, is the main reason I went with it but I love the sound and it looks great. Granted it's all stainless steel, which regardless of where you live, stainless helps to prevent corrosion, and doesn't have the ugly surface rust that steel pipes can get which I would be scuffing painting over from time to time. Volants come ALL polished so if you want to clean it its a bit easier than non-pol stainless. So lotsa choices and this is one more.

Here is a link to my personal review on them.

I appreciate the advice from everyone. I live in cleveland, ohio, so we get some pretty mean winters, plus lots of salt on the road and i run my truck all year. sounds crazy but i have heard of some that store theirs for the winter. I really like the Gibson supertruck side exhaust. it's just something different. Now with the Flowmaster kit, does that come with the 50 series/SUV muffler? i thought that sounded pretty cool on the website, but i can't be too sure cuz it's a website after all. same goes for the Gibson. -jeff

I still to this day find this funnny. Think about it like this...

Hey Jeff, I added some mods to the truck, wanna come check'em out? Crawl on the ground and get underneath'er and take a look at that shiney puppy down there. What shiney puppy asks jeff. Oh, the one I covered in mud this morning. Hold on, let me get my wash bucket and a towel to clean it off so you can see how purty she is, then we'll go sling some mud and when we get back, you can help me clean that hot azz stainless steel again.

I mean, come on. Its underneath. Unless you go to NOPI and line the perimeter of your truck with mirrors, how many people are gonna see a stainless muffler? There are bigger and better things to do with that money saved.

(granted, all this is assuming you don't live in Denver, Boston, New York, Farrgo or some other snow bound salt haven)

I just ordered mine. I chose it because a lot of people here have good things to say about magnaflow. The soundclip and video at the magnaflow site had alot to do with my decision as well. Just what mine will sound like.

Guys, don't forget, most exhaust systems rust from the inside out not from the outside in. It's the condensation and gases that eat at the steel. Stainless is much better for corrosion resistance than plain steel. Aluminized is a very good option for saving money and for an exhaust system that will last longer than plain, uncoated steel. Aluminized will not outlast stainless however. There is also many different grades of stainless. The best is 304 which most high end exhaust companies use such as Borla and Gibson. Other's like to use the "stainless" in their advertising but use cheaper, magnetic grades of stainless which do not have nearly the corrosion resistence of 304. If you see a cheap price for an all stainless exhaust, chances are it's NOT 304. If a magnet sticks, it's also not 304.

the "cheap" version of stainless they use for exhaust is 409.....another downside to it is its not able to be polished to a mirror finish like 304 can be.

Check out the new Corsa system, a link was in here somewhere to Fordmuscle.com or Magnaflow for split duals. Nice sounds by each.

i have the flowmaster 40 series on mine. the 40 series is the best one for sound imo. the 50 series is a bit quieter than the 40 tho.
