My Magnaflow Exhaust Review
My Magnaflow Exhaust Review
Well, I finally got the ***** to get new exhaust. Here's my post from when I started thinking about getting a Magnaflow . I felt the need to make a new thread so people would hear what I think about the Magnaflow.
What I ended up with was having the factory y-pipe cut back far enough to get a 3" aluminized pipe matched up to it. Then I had the pipe ran back to a stainless steel 5"x9"x14" 3" SI/SO Magnaflow muffler, and dumped it right after the cab.
At $250 I couldn't resist. I was afraid the Magnaflow would be too quiet for me ( I have a 1967 Mustang Coupe with dual Dynomax and had a 199 Mustang GT with dual Spintechs), so I chose to go with the dump.
When I first cranked it up, it was greeting with a deep bellow. It sounded just right. I revved the engine a few times... still it sounded just right, not too loud, but deep and smooth. When I got it on the road, I knew I made the right choice by going with the Magnaflow instead of the Dynomax. I have a little bit of cabin drone, but I actually like it. The drone isn't as bad as my Mustangs are/were ( I could barely use a cell phone in them).
At low rpm (under 1500) I don't have any power loss, which is why I chose the Magnaflow. At about 2000 rpm (my average engine speed), I feel a bit more power. There's a hill that I drive up/down reguarly, and I can now slowly accelerate up it at 2000 rpm whereas before I could only hold my speed. At about 3000 rpm, there is definitely more power, and above 3000 rpm, I know that it was worth every cent of that $250.
I didn't expect much a difference with my new exhaust, so I'm pretty impressed with the small improvements. So the verdict is: the Magnaflow definitely kicks ***.
In fact, my dad liked it so much, he went and had the same setup installed on his 98 F250 5.4L this afternoon! I only wish I had the bigger motor, because his sounds a little bit better. But all in all, I'm pretty happy with the setup. So here's the pics:

Nice set up. I love my magnaflow and all I did was put the 16616 side exit on. The bolt on kits from them sound awsome I bet you'res has that much better tone. Are there any exhaust fumes at stop lights from the dumped set ups. just curious.
I'm glad someone finally replied to my thread!
To answer your question, I have not smelled any exhaust fumes while at stop lights. My dump is just after the back of the cab, so basically, it almost in the same place a side exit exhaust would be in front of the rear tire. Also, I think TX law requires vehicles to have their exhausts exit behind the passenger area. I've had it for three days now, and I absolutely love it!

Budha05STX, I just went to the CD Muffler & Tire shop on Eckhert and Bandera, becaust it's 5 minutes from my house. They did my 67 Mustang's exhaust about 4 years ago, and did a pretty good job. They have shops all over town, and the price should be about the same. I went in there around 1 pm, and they had to get the muffler from another shop. I took it in about 3 hours later, and in about 45 minutes, they had my new exhaust set up on the truck. I'll say it again, I'm pretty damn impressed with the Magnaflow muffler.
I got mine done at a midas shop my homeboy used to work at. I went w/ the larger 24" long magnaflow (12286 5" x 8" x 24"). I was after a more quiet but there when I stomped on it kind of exhaust. I'm very pleased w/ magnaflow. I paid $120 for the muffler and install using the stock pipes.

yeah I have the same setup but with stock piping and run out the back with a tip. I like it, its a bit too quiet for me but its ok. i installed my custom intake today and it added a little sound to it. I did notice a little power gain from the magnaflow. I had straight piped before but with the cats still on and it was louder then the magnaflow but I lost some power. I got that back when I installed the magnaflow muffler.
