4.6L Headers. Is it worth the Money ?

What brand is the best that for fit and performance. Is it worth it on the 4.6 with those cats ?

My truck is registered with NO-Smog Requirements and was thinking of going to headers and 40 flowmasters and NOT using the cats anymore.

I was told that the Diablo Preditor would cure the runability issues not using cats ??

Any imput from previous experiences !!!!!!

Thanks

Put the headers on (LT I hope) , rip out the cats, skip the flow if you want performance, or keep it if you want sound. I say go with something that gives you both. Run dual 2 1/2 inch pipes or single 3inch.

Vman - 01vert means long tube headers when he says LT

The problem with these little motors is lack of low end torque ( short stroke ).

The magnaflow cat back is the only system that will bolt on to help low end torque - Troyer Performance says they tested them all - I would pop the $ 500 and be done.

check ebay for "F150 headers" and u will find a set for 287 for high heat painted or i think 432 for ceramic coated ones... ur choice but ceramics will work better and put off less heat.

If you're truck is a 4x4 the long tubes won't work they only make shorties

Just put JBA stainless jet coated shorties on my truck with a fresh rebuild. I don't know how well they will perform because right now I am taking it easy with the new engine. I can tell you they sound terrific with the Flowmaster Super 40 SI/DO exhaust I have. The way they sound indicates they will have some benefit but it is widely known this is not one of the best bang-for-the-buck upgrades. I did it because I got mine used.
Fit was excellent. When I dropped in the engine the ball end at the collector on the headers dropped right into the exhaust cups.

Good luck and always have fun.

WLF-
I've been eyeing those jba's myself.
I have a friend who put on the jba shorties, and he said there was an internal " tick" that drove to take them off.
He said internal ( not a leak ), and I believe him.
Whadya think so far?

sounds like he has a bad lifter... not something that would be linked the headers... he may not hear the noise as much with manifolds but the noise is still there

As I said, I can't speak to the performance yet. I love the sound with my Super 40 exhaust. I'm keeping mine. Maybe your friend will give you a good price on the headers.

Vegasman, if your truck is registered in the state of California, you do not have "no smog requirements" as you said in your post. California is one of the most restrictive states on emissions and smog equipment on all vehicles. I suggest you check out the DMV website for clarification.
