Has anyone checked there e.t. or their gas mileage before and after adding aftermarket exaust? I am interested in the 40s single in dual out set up. Does anyone pull alot with thier trucks? Did you lose any torque in the 1500 to 2500 rpm range? I need to keep the low end torque up but I want to be able to run at the redlight too.

To Ford Tough and other interested parties:
I finally recieved the stuff from New Era
yesterday. Nice Flowmaster muffler, really
nice slash cut tips, but the piping doesn't seem to good. It is not mandrel bent, meaning where the pipes are bent it's all ridged rather than a smooth bend. Sometime between Sunday and Tuesday I'm gonna install it, so I'll keep you all posted. If it does
work ok, it's definately a good deal for about $130.00.

I have a 98 Lariat 4x2 with 5.4 engine. I had a Flowmaster catback installed a few days ago. The Flowmaster PN for the system is 17222. This includes 2.5" pipe into the muffler (PN 525561) and 2 2.5" pipes exiting to dual rear under the bumper. I had some 3" tips welded on instead of the tips Flowmaster provided. I watched the whole installation, it was very easy, particularly with the truck on a lift. The shop welded all the joints instead of clamping. You could do it yourself if you wanted. I only had to have a corner ground off my hitch (driver's side) to let the tip fit. I love the results, much better sound (louder and deeper) and noticeable increase in power. The system is $321 in the Flowmaster book the shop had (you cannot order direct from them). Total cost after installation was $470. I notice a lot of people had it done cheaper, but to me it is worth it.
Ok I finally put my flowmaster kit on the
truck. Got it from http://www.neweraexhaust.com for about $130.00. It includes a reducer pipe, flowmaster 40 2 chanmer muffler, prebent dual pipes coming out of the back. Installation was a breeze, the pipes fit right into place, nothing got in the way. The only hard part was pulling off the factory exhaust, you have to heat up the joing really hot and our torch wasn't quite hot enough so we had to make relief cuts with a saw. Everything clamped together and fit well. It has a really nice sound. Not loud at all, unless you're standing right behind the pipes. And it comes with really nice tips. I haven't noticed any drawbacks and it's quiet at cruising speeds. The only thing I'm gonna do now is get some high temp paint and paint the inside of the tips red. I'll try to get some pictures soon. I would definately reccomend this kit and it an easy backyard job.

HI FOLKS,
I SPOKE WITH THE OWNER OF A LOCAL MUFFLER
SHOP TODAY. I ASKED HIM FOR ADVISE RE: FLOWMASTER CATBACK. HE INDICATED THAT HE
SOLD THEM BUT THOUGHT A "MAGNAFLOW" CATBACK
WITH 3" SINGLE PIPE WAS BETTER FOR MY TRUCK.
I HAVE 99 F150 WITH 5.4.
HAS ANYONE HAD ANY EXPERIENCE WITH MAGNAFLOW
MUFFLERS? IS THERE ANY COMPELLING REASON THAT
I SHOULD CONSIDER DUAL PIPES OVER SINGLE OTHE
THAN LOOKS AND SOUND.
I AM MAINLY INTERESTED IN AN INCREASE IN PERFORMANCE AND MILEAGE AND DON'T WANT TO
BE TOO LOUD.
THANKS,
LARRY

I don't recommend that you install the Magnaflow because my dad made that mistake on his 99 Expedition. He's got the 5.4 and with that muffler, he had more noise inside the cabin than he did outside.
He finally went ahead and put a 70 series flowmaster. It's got a nice low mellow tone to it, but it gives alot more performance and mpg than the magnaflow

Deputy,
Do you by chance have the Trailer Tow Package? I have the 5.4 SC w/ TTP and will probably try this setup if it doesn't interfere with the reciever.
Thanks,
Jim

HI AGAIN,
I WOULD STILL LIKE TO KNOW PRO/CON OF SINGLE PIPE VS. DUAL PIPE CONFIGURATIONS. IF I GO
WITH FLOWMASTER 50. TWO PIPES INTO, ONE 3" PIPE OUT AM I GOING TO GET ALL OF THE HP THAT CAN BE HAD FROM CAT BACK INSTALLATION. HAS ANYONE USED TWO FLOWMASTERS ON THE 5.4 WITH DUALS OUT THE REAR? LOGIC SAYS THEY WOULD FLOW MORE THAN SINGLE BUT IS THIS NEEDED ON A BASICALLY STOCK 5.4 OR IS IT OVERKILL? I WANT TO KEEP AS SIMPLE AS POSSIBLE AND STILL GET ALL THE BENNIES. I SEE SOME POSTS WITH ONE PIPE INTO ONE MUFFLER AND TWO OUT THE BACK. ANY PRACTICAL REASON TO DO THIS?

I don't know about the New Era system Deputy has, but I have the 50 series catback from Flowmaster. I have the tow package on mine, and there are no problems. Goes right around the hitch. The only thing I had to have done was grinding the corner of the hitch on the driver's side so the tip would fit. The material removed from the hitch was from the extra metal protruding out both sides at the back. Take a look at the hitch and you will see what I mean.

Yes, I do have the trailer towing package. It doesn't get in the way at all. Neither does the spare tire. But about the trailer hitch, you may have to grind of a teeny bit of the driver's side corner, because it comes mightly close to the chrome tip on that
side. But I drilled the hanger into the hitch
and it holds it nice and solid. The tip sits about 2 mm from the corner of the hitch, and anyone else might shave off a bit, but it's really solid and will take bumps and the like without moving a bit. The prebent pipes pass right through all the jungle of stuff under the struck and set up perfectly. The only hard part is pulling the factory exhaust off... if you don't have a really
hot torch which will expand the pipe and make it easy to pull off, you will have to make relief cuts like I had to do, and that sucks. Once I got that off, another 1/2 hour and everything went into place.
