Gibson vs. Borla exhaust system - which is better?

Been bouncing around the idea of putting an aftermarket exhaust system and headers for my new 04 F150 Screw. I want both the power and sound from this setup. From everything I've read in these forums, it seems people like the Borla better. I haven't seen too many responses from people who have installed Gibson. I'm new to this so in your opinion, what are the pros and cons to both system including headers.

Thanks in advance.

Im not going to tell you one is better than the other because I havent dealt with the Gibson. I do have the Borla split rear, and I really like it. I bought the Borla because of previous experience with them. There are no clearance problems with this set up. It is quiet at idle and while cruising, no drone. It is throaty when you get on the gas though. It is all T-304 stainless steel, mandrel bent and has a million mile warranty. The only cons I can think of are the cost of the Borla may be a little more, but I have learned you get what you pay for. The other con is the crossover pipe hangs a little low behind the rear end and can be seen if you look under the rear of the truck, BUT, I would rather have that than have clearance problems with the spare tire or something else under the bed of the truck. All in all I would highly recommend this system to anyone looking for an aftermarket exhaust. There are pics in my gallery if you havent seen this set up yet. Good luck whatever you decide.

I don't like any Borla tips, but that's just preferance. Borla's Straight through design will last longer than baffel design, and give more power. And, it doesn't cost much more than the stainless Gibson. Borla designed and tests their systems for optimal power. Gibson is not as thorough and the results are not as good. Better than stock, yes, but not as good at it could be.

Oh, Gibson split rear does not fit with the 17" spare wheel. Borla and Magnaflow do.

Lots of people like the Gibson, but most get the aluminized version which don't seem to last more than a couple years.

Don't get the Gibson Swept Side Single. It's too quite for my tastes but gives a good perf gain. Never had any exp with Borla so I can not comment.

The Gibson kit went in fine and the pieces are of good quilty. The tip which looked great when I got it is now all pitted and looks pretty worn. Granted it's behind the right rear but I do clean it reg and have waxed it several times. It only has seen about 10 K on road miles with no off roading. Dunno but expected it to hold up a bit better.

I'm currently looking for a different muffler to make the note a bit louder.

Where did you order your Borla from? What is the pricing?

Do you have a sense of how that exhaust compares to a Flowmaster 50 as far as sound/in cab noise levels? Thanks.

Another Borla vote. I prefer the straight-through design.

Brnie Lomax,

Dont know if you were asking me but Ill tell you anyway. I bought mine off of e-bay for 554.95 with free shipping.

No, I can only tell you my experience with the Borla. At idle and at cruise you dont even know its there, no drone. When you tip in the throttle you get a nice throaty rumble that sounds great and yet still wont tick off the neighborhood. Hope this helped some.

I would recommend the MAGNAFLOW systems. They are all stainless, have a good deep sound under acceleration, and a fairly quiet at highway cruzing speeds

So far, Magnaflwo only has a single 3" system for the 2004 body style.

The best prices right now seem to be from Performance Peddler:
