Thumbs up Nice rig...BDU's!!!

Griz,

First off, nice rig!!! Love the red, and really love the interior. That Magnaflow looks sweet, too. I'm hoping mine comes in tomorrow...we'll see . Anyway, about those BDU's...yeah, I'm not too sure about them yet. Leaves me with a sour taste in my mouth. I think I'm mostly concerned with the coloring, than anything. Pattern seems all right...but those COLORS! Almost looks like the "BDUs" they sell at the fleamarket...you know, the one's that come in just about EVERY color imaginable (including PINK and BLACK). It's gonna take some time to warm up to them. I'm sure the retired guys said the same thing when the khaki color uniforms went out, and blues went in. So, it should be interesting to see the use/practicality/likeability of these.

Anyway, great looking rig...the Mag really makes her stand out even more. If mine looks half as good as yours does, I'll have made the right choice! Take care.

Thanks alot, I appreciate it! I need to clean her up though. I was thinking of getting rid of that brush guard, what's your opinion? Anyway, you'll probably get your exhaust tomorrow. I ordered on a Wednesday afternoon and was underneath the truck playing on Friday afternoon. Full Line rocks! I've got a couple of good emails about the uniforms I'll send you as well. Take care and enjoy tomorrow off! Oh, are you in the 60th?

Hey Griz,

I like the guard...but then again, maybe because I want one. So my opinion is a bit biased! It gives the truck a rugged look, which is a nice contrast to a "street scene" truck." Both styles are sweet, but I think I want mine looking more rugged, because it seems that EVERY truck here in Cali is for looks, and no play. So, it would definitely set mine apart from most around here. Depends what YOU like, but I say either way, you still have yourself a nice looking truck.

As far as the 60th, no...I'm actually in the 349th. But I know MANY 60th folk. Do you know anyone in particular over this way? Anyway, take it easy, and I look forward to reading about the BDU's.

Hey Guys...

I happened to be reading through this thread and noticed we had some past and present military guys. I just wanted to say "HI" and tell y'all thanks.

I am also active duty Air Force currently squatting at Randolph AFB (AFPC). I say squatting because I've been here almost 8 years! I've been in the AF for over 14 years and I've pretty much loved every minute. Been to Germany, NM, Italy, Saudi and obviously here in San Antonio.

Hey Griz, I like your b-guard, not as much as the one I got thoughbut that's personal preferance anyways! LOL My FX4 actually came with the one you have or one really similar and I had the dealer take it off because I knew which one I wanted, a black powdercoated Ranch-Hand Euro and I didn't want the chrome either - I go to the coast too much. How are things in Robins? I have a girlfriend of mine that lives there now. She's a GS-12 civilian working on the civiliam personnel side of the house. I guess there's a lot of that there though.

Hey C5, that's awesome man. My cousin is currently at LAFB going through basic and then on to become.... A LOADMASTER! I'd like to talk to ya sometime and find out some stuff on it...

Now, on to the post. All I can is to make sure to go back and double check your bolts on the system. You might notice a rattling at startup and if you do, your bolts needs tightening on the exhaust. I put the 15609 on my truck back in May and I love it. I have a little discoloration of the tip for some reason though... As for the spare tire, it should be ok as long as you have more than an inch of clearance. You can loose the rear connection and rotate a little to provide a little more clearance.

Later on and take care!

Chris

One more thing?

I noticed that I have a different exhaust tip than you do. Mine is like a 4 inch opening and 24 inches long. It doesn't say Magnaflow on it either. I may need to contact Mike regarding this because I know he is just pretty much the liason on a lot these things...

Forgot to mention.. That's one sharp truck! That Red is one of my Favs!

The reason for my concern is that discoloration like I mentioned....

Chris,
I didn't realize you were also in the good ole' AF. I've admired your truck since I first became addicted to this site! At the time I had a 2WD extended cab with a 4.2. The one I have now is definitely better than what I had. But I'm like you, the Euro style brush guard is definitely nicer. The one I have was on it when I bought it, so oh well. Do you by any chance work in assignments at AFPC? If so, are you on the global? I'd love to pick your brain about the assignment process sometime. Anyway, about that post,
I adjusted my tailpipe yesterday and I feel like it's positioned well now. Have you had any issues with the bolts loosening over time? One other question--Has your sound seemed to have gotten better as it has "broken in?" It seemed a little quiet at first, but is getting louder daily. Thanks for your time, service, and response!

Brian, sorry, I don't work in assignments. I handle the Systems Administration for all the servers for the center and yes, I am on the global. I'd love to pick someone's brain about assignments also! LOL

As for the bolts, I wouldn't necessarily say they have loosened, but maybe a good way to put it is that they have settled. I noticed that only my front clamp seems to cause any problems and that is primarily from the startup (when it's cold). Once the heat starts hitting it and it expands, it's tight as can be. I think that may be due to its location in relation to the cats. I may actually go and have just that one welded. The loudness will peak after a few days and stay there to yield a nice rumble - probably where it's at now for you..

Good to hear that you got the t-pipe adjusted. I had the same concern with mine and adjusted it.. I don't have a picture of my exhaust tip but I'll take one or try to find another on the site so you can see what mine looks like. I kinda like yours more!

Maybe Magnaflow changed the tips they put on this system. I like it pretty well though. I guess you could get a newe tailpipe with the new tip welded on . Not sure it would be worth the greenbacks though. I know we're in the exhaust forum, but while I'm chatting with you I wanted to ask you a couple questions. 1) Have you noticed any changes performance wise since you did the airbox mod? 2) Have you cranked your torsion bars? Thanks again!

I just found a pic...

This is from ZJumpers gallery and I have pretty much the exact same thing. In fact, if I didn't tell it wasn't mine, you couldn't tell...

As for performance of the airbox mod, yes a *little* - It revs easier from idle and with the exhaust a little more. One must remember that with a 5% gain only ~10 horses are gained at the wheel.. That's not a lot when you really think about it, but hey, it's still more power. I can squeal the tires a lot easier now, not that I do but I have and noticed it was much more easy to do now..

Reel Work,
Check it out, not exhaust but I followed your lead and did an air box mod today. What do you think?

Just curious... what did you gain from this? Is there a k&N filter in there?

Hey guys,

Noticed you were talking about the difference in your "tips" ...I remember a post not too long ago where a couple of guys had the same conversation. One of the guys found out that a couple years back, Magnaflow changed the tips...no apparent reason...mostly cosmetic it seems. But the tips do look a bit different, but everything else stayed the same. Anyway, ReelWork, my e-mail is c5guy312@msn.com, so feel free to e-mail me anytime with questions. Out of curiousity...do you know where your cousin is going to be stationed. I'm at Travis, so he'll probably there or at Dover, I assume. Anyway...tell him good luck...I remember basic like it was yesterday (it was 4 years ago, but hey, time seems to be flyin anyway). I can honestly say, it sucked, but when I look back on it, I think it was one of the best things I could have done for myself. Anyway...look forward to hearing from you.
