Post cat Eliminators

I have heard of cat eliminators, or intermidiate pipes that go after the manifolds, they are basically pieces of pipe that are flanged in, they are sweet my roomate has them on his SS, they are bad he simply uses O2 sensor simulators to trick the system to lean the fuel, if anyone knows anything about them let me know

Howies_effie,
Did you swap your stock fan for electric ones? If so, I'd be interested in a few more details. Brand, mounting locations, removal of the stock fan, etc. Any help would be appreciated.

I can't believe it's the 21 century and we are still using engine-powered fans. The Japs have been using this power-saving technology for decades.

Thanks

Hey max I was just mesin around I get what you meant Im sorry to have offended you. I took the truck out and ran it up to about 75, well it went it was loud, my buddy said it sounded like john force was on the street, it was alot faster, but it had no bottom end and at this point in time I had a jet chip and my mass air meter with a K and N, it hauled. but it was just unbearable, imagine a pro stock car taking off from the line and thats what it sounded like, the Y went back on with the cats after that.

If you are looking for better performance from your truck, the cats are almost the last thing I would work on. Max Mitchell is right -- Get a nice 2.5" into 3" wye fitting and replace the factory 2.5" into 2.5" wye for starters - that is the most obvious restriction in the exhaust. Then buy a nice 3" performance muffler and maybe some custom pipes. Better yet, buy two 16" electric fans and toss your engine driven fan - you will gain about 15 horsepower and get another 2mpg *guaranteed*.

Removing or disabling the cats was effective in the 70's when they were poorly designed, but doing that on a newer vehicle is just plain ignorant considering how well they function.

Another thing to consider - you may have trouble getting your vehicle inspected/licenced depending on your local gov't, and you will have trouble when you trade it in. If someone buys your truck and can't licence it because you disabled the emissions controls, they can come back to you and bill you for the repairs!

Not yet. Fans are my next mod. I have been studying Neal the HP Freak's setup with 2 16" Derale fans and was planning something similar. The radiator on mine has a surface of about 32" x 16" so it will fit 2 of the 16" fans nicely. There are some perma-cool high performance fans at Summit for about $80 each that pull 2000 cfm each - hopefully that will be enough!

Ganiman,
I checked out that site, and fans look to be a great mod. Not only do you pick up some HP, but you also increase you MPG. I'm very curious to see what your results are. Keep us posted!
