Talking How many 5.4 owners with straight pipes?

Just wondering....how many 5.4L owners out there with straight pipes and dual outlets? What's it sound like....compared to, let's say, with a flowmaster si/do? Any sound clips?

thanks,

jason

I have true duals without a X pipe or crossover, 18" glass packs (not cherry bombs) that both dump out before the passenger rear. I stayed with the 2.5" pipes and mufflers all the way out. I also have 3.5" tips. At an idle I have a very deep but mellow tone that sounds great. As I get on it, it gets loud and turns heads. But when I am traveling down the highway, the cab drone is not bad at all. I mean it is less than if you were to have your window a 1/2 of the way down and this is at 65 mph. When I crack the window for a smoke, I can hardly hear the exhaust. So it is the best of both worlds. By the way, I still have all 4 cats.

I have a 5.4 with true dual straight pipes (2.5") on the whole system. I am just gonna hafta take a recording of this set up sometime so you guys can hear it. My web site has a recording of straights that are "y" piped behind the cats to 2.25" pipes and 18" slash cut tips (3.5").

Now I have 2.5" straight roll cut tips and the sound is just amazing

Flowmaster for sale!!!!

Fordman....OMG!!!!!

I just heard your exhaust, and Iye Chihuahua!!! That sounds unbelievably great. Did you notice any performance difference with that setup? Did you say you have NO mufflers? Is it dual pipes all the way from the manifold or just from the stock y-pipe? I'm gettin' mine done that way...no doubt about it!

Congrats!!

Jason

I don't realy remember how the pickup performed with that exact set up. IF you think that sounds good you should hear what I have on it now! Cut out that factory POS y pipe and run true dual 2.5" and you will be ASTOUNDED at the sound!

If you don't want to run true duals, run a y pipe after the cats and it will sound better than those flowmasters, guaranteed!

And yes that is NO mufflers

My setup is pretty loud on the hwy, tire wise... I am running 285-75-16 Cooper STTs. These are mud terrains, and they HUuuuummmmm going down the road, they drown out the straight pipes almost completely "almost"

I drive 110 miles home from college and before I did the mud terrains it was not annoying, in fact I liked to hear the nice rumble, reminded me of the days of muscle cars.

I'll see if I can get my brother to record my new pipes one of these days, if not I'll find a way to get it done!

My brother put straight pipes out the back on his 98 Ext Cab 4x4 with 5.4. Headers Y into a single pipe for a foot or so and then split to two pipes or basically added where the muffler use to be. Sounds good without being ungodly loud.
