Question Noise from exhaust during cold weather

The weather here in GA is starting to get a little colder. I've noticed that when I'm at a stop I can hear a loud ping coming from what seems to the be the right side exhaust. It happens once every couple of minutes. I don't notice it during driving but maybe I just don't hear it. It is probably the heat shields flexing on teh converters, has anyone else had a problem with this? I think maybe a weld is not good. I looked at them but couldn't tell much. If it is the weld, other than annoying, will it hurt anything?
