The minimal additional initial prep and install effort - and I stress it's minimal, (as you can't use the primary advantage of the H1's H13 projector-leveling adapter anyway in an F150 housing due to clearance and registration skew issues), is completely dwarfed by the advantage of having access to the vast world of D2S bulb choices, the much greater bulb seating precision, the ability to safely use 55W capsules if desired, and the obvious optical advantages. Not to mention that 3" lenses look far better than 2.5's in such huge housings.

A no-brainer.

To the OP - consider this thread well and truly 'jacked. R U surprised?

Y'all may be talking me into D2S's. But I actually don't like how big the 3.0" lenses look as much and I don't see myself going to the OEM bulbs unless the XBs end up sucking for me. I've done a good bit of research and have yet to SEE a difference between the two. But people have vouched for the D2S being better. We'll see what I get . . .

So funny that y'all still don't agree on the wattage haha.

Edit: F it, I'll get the D2S's. If I do XB bulbs, now need to decide between 4500k and 5500k. I want 5000k cause 4300k is just slightly too yellow and 6000k is too blue. I want absolutely pure snow white, which TRS seems to say is the 5500k. I'm getting G37-R shrouds unless those are too small or something. Apollo 3.0 is the only other "big" one I can deal with the looks on.

I don't think the XB bulbs are going to suck, from new they compete very closely with CBIs. It's just they will end up losing lumens quicker. But that's going to be after about a year and a half or so depending on how much you use them.

If I were you I would go 5500k. Even TRS says these will give you the best light. And will be pretty dead nuts white.

I have G37-r with a 3" projector so check out my retrofit if you wanna see how they look.

The one other main average D2S has over a H1 bulb is going to be alignment in the projector itself. The H1 bulb just has to many variables that could go wrong that would misalign the bulb in the projector and throw your hotspot off. I know I had a lot of trouble with this with my mini H1 5.0 with ever bulb I used. I had to shim the bulbs to get the hot spot where I wanted it.

Well it's XB versus standard, so definitely XB. I don't think I'd see the value in going with CBI's or Night Breakers or whatever else cause I'm not as discerning.

TRS likes the 5500k over 4500k? Interesting, cause shouldn't 4500k technically have more lumens/light? I know it's not the best comparison, but what temp are you running in your RX350s? I really don't want any blue at all, but still can't decide.

I looked for yours and saw that you had G37-R too, so we both have good taste haha. And thanks, I'm definitely getting the D2S, already talked myself into it.

Ya it doesn't make sense. But in one thread Matt even says to go 5500k..
In my retro I'm running CBI which are about 5500k once they break in after 50 hours.

Well, Matt's word is good enough for me . . . I just found the thread where he said that they provide better visibility because the color they produce contrasts with the road more than the 4500k's. Sounds good, just changed mine to 5500k and about to check out!

Projectors : 2 x D2S 3.0: (O Lens/LHD) $0.00
Ballasts: 2 x Morimoto XB35 (35W) $0.00
Igniters (Required for XB35/XB55!): 2 x Morimoto XB Igniter (D2S) $0.00
Bulbs: 2 x D2S: XB35 5500K $5.00
Shrouds: 2 x G37-R $0.00
Wire Harness: 2 x Canbus: H13/9008 $0.00
Sealant: 1 x OCI Butyl Rubber Glue $10.00

Total of $251 after coupon and I'll see what shipping is.

Already have some OCI butyl, but can never have too much.

^^^ Harness you needed to specify: http://www.theretrofitsource.com/com...l#.VHjL5tLF_m4

You don't have a Canbus lighting system.

Refer to:

Motocontrol Harness:

Do you see the difference now?

This!
You only need the motocontrol. Nothing special for the f150s.

What's funny is, I already laid out the correct harness in post #15.

( BTW - I'll stick to 4500K as my selection as a better 'all-weather' color, for folks whut gits inclement cornditions / precip. Plus the bulbs all upshift over time anyway - not sure where a 5500K aftermarket bulb ends up after a couple-hundy hours - reckon it'll have a tinge o' blue at that point. )

Icing on the cake? You gettin' thanked fer all my hard work! LMFAO !!!

Well I'd like to extent the thanks onto you

Personally I'd go 4500k also. I have CBIs and don't like how they are in the rain. It's like they aren't on when it rains.. If I ever get a great deal I'll be jumping to the Night breakers. They start out almost 3800k and end up 4100-4200k.

Roger that - you nailed it. I'm thankin' the same thang - if'n it warn't fer the fact that the ol' Looney just tanked along wif the oil prices, I'd be jumpin' on a set as well... meanwhile I reckon I'll just keep limpin' along wif me Philips 85122+'s.

Buddy - thankee, but no need fer you to thank ol' Bubber.

Oops, thanks for pointing that out, guys. I had the MotoControl harness on one screen and the Canbus on the other, which is the one I ordered from. I emailed TRS about changing it No biggie, hopefully, cause the order is still being processed and the guys are gone until Monday anyway.

Brad, you JUST said to go with 5500K Either way, I'm sure I'll be fine with either. I was over-thinking bulb choice and if I don't like what I have, I'll just change them out and keep the others as spares.
