Yellow Road Lights
Yellow Road Lights
I have a 2001 SCREW and do alot of night driving, has anyone replaced there driving light bulb's with yellow bulb's, and if so, where did you get them, and what were the part numbers, all help is appr.
I believe you're talking about FOG lights, not DRIVING lights. (There is a definite difference and your truck has fogs in the lower valence.) If you really want more light on the ground, I'd suggest upgrading the bulbs - but not changing to amber color. Many studies I've read indicate that amber / yellow bulbs really put less light on the ground.
If you want to go with better bulbs, I'd suggest replacing your current 40 watt bulbs with anything up to 80 watts. More than that and you'll end up with problems due to current draw and wire size. I've found that 9005 bulbs will slide right into the slots currently filled by your 9145 bulbs. I'd recommend checking out a place called Competition Ltd. in Michigan. (I believe they now have a web site.) They have any color and wattage you could want.
If you really want to put more light on the ground, I'd recommend upgrading your headlight bulbs / system with higher wattage bulbs and a heavy duty wiring harness. I've done that with my truck (plus adding some 130 watt driving lights behind the grill) and the difference is truly breath taking.

Competition Ltd. just happens to have the yellow / amber color bulbs you're looking for. You can also get them in a higher wattage so you get more light. I'm running 80 watt bulbs in mine with no problems. By the way, the stock 9145 F-150 Fog Light bulbs can be replaced with much easier to get 9005 bulbs.
I am familar with the 9145 swap for the 9005 bulb but, after a brief search for the 'Competition Ltd.' company on the www, I couldn't locate it.
Do you have a link to a website or a phone number?
The only yellow bulbs that I've found, to date, were on ebay and pulled 100-150 watts which, I believe, will fry the wiring system... and that would be bad.

It's here
http://www.hioutputbulbs.com/compt.htm
But I would give them a call. The phone is on the order page.
Also you might want to try search Internet for "yellow 9005" or something.
Alex.

I got mine from www.EuroLamps.com. They are bright enough to drive with only them on at night if I wanted to.

PIAA bulbs
PIAA makes a Ion Crystal Yellow 9005 bulb. They are the 55w version I believe...read up on the board here before you go putting in the 80w bulbs, a few people have fried their harnesses. THe stock bulb is 45w (actually its 42w I think), so the 55w should be safer than the 80w. The PIAA site doesn't list the Ion Crystal 9005...its an overseas part that you should be able to get relatively easy on the web.

If you want to use the factory fog light wiring, stick to 55 watt lights. If you want a lot more light run some upgraded wiring, it's very simple and cheap to do and will keep you from stressing your electrical system. My research indicates that yellow light is the most efficient color. The current trend of "super white" or blue bulbs is based on junk science. Super white and blue appear to give more light but that type of light is easily diffused and does not actually travel well. Just my .02...
Yeah, the superwhite in the fogs isn't much of performance mod... I think of it as an appearance mod. Although, my BIOLIGHT super whites that are in my fogs DEFINATELY put out more light than the stock 9145 bulb...
I might just upgrade the wiring. That'd be pretty darn easy to do but, on the flip side, there's no way to keep the housing from melting.... I think that's a legitimate worry. If I bump the wattage up too much and, in turn, create more heat, I have a fear that I'll melt the plastic housing.
I really want the gold bulbs but, I'd like to see some installed first....
ANYONE HAVE ANY PICS?!?
