Dash Stoped Working?
I have a problem maby someone can help me with? I was on my way to work this morning when I looked down to notice that my speedo, tach and all other gauges on my 1998 f-150 were maxing out then shutting down they all stoped responding
The truck continued to run as did all the other electrical systems. I went right away to work where I checked my underdash fuses none were blown? so I went to my Ford dealership (across the street) and they said they wanted to have it in to run test on it the only test I see them doing is the one where the find out how much money I have in my wallet. If anyone has any suggestions on what to do please share I have an appointment tomorow morning with Ford. If I can fix this before then it shure would help the wallet. Thanks

If you lost tach, oil pressure,& coolant temp they share a common board in the cluster. Did you retain any indicator lights in the dash? (Emergency Brake light or any of the others that light when you turn the key)
Yes all of the lights work just like normal. The only things that stoped working are my Speedo,Tach,Odometer,Fuel,Temp,Oil and Voltmeter(Anything with a Needel). The backlight and surounding warning lights still work.
I'm not sure if this would even help or if you've tried it, but you might unplug the positive terminal on the battery. This might reset the computer if you've thrown a code. Tryit and let me know.
Hope I helped.
Hope I helped.
It sounds like your fears may be confirmed, but stick around; a lot of guys reply between 6p and 3a. I'm tapped out of suggestions; other than the fact that there is a cluster on ebay with a bid of $20.

Well last night after inspecting every fuse in the truck and not finding a single one burnt my buddy and I broke out the wiring diagrams we looked at all possible breaks in the chain and shure enough all arrows pointed to the ECM. But since I have no clue where this is located nor do I know how to replace it the truck is in the hands of Ford as we speak  I have not heard back from them yet(Almost 5 Hours) so all I guess is that im about to be broke$$$ But I will keep you informed

BREATHE SLOWLY.............
OK. Major bummer, but we were afraid of this. Work the phones to local junkyards, work the WEB, ebay, and junkyards online type sites. I wouldn't advise you to look at unoccupied late model trucks, but....JUST KIDDING
From what I understand the cluster from a 97 or 98 will work.
Above all remain calm-Where are you located BTW, somebody local to you may be able to help.

 Im upset with ford for their lack of reasons I paid them $67 to run a diagnosis only for them to tell me IT DOSENT WORK! why I asked they said its getting power but not responding? "It must have shorted out they said" if it shorted out shouldent it have blown the fuse first? Im not taking any chances im going to replace all the mini fuses inside the cab and under the hood before I make any major moves in the mean time I will fill up with gas every 3 days to make shure I dont run dry and ill use my GPS to tell me how fast im going! But I guess I will begin the junk yard rounds tomorow
