Keyless entry

Hello I just brought home my new (used) F150 on Sat. I didn't get any keyfobs for it but suspect it my have keyless entry. Does anyone know where I can look to find this out for sure? Is there a module or something of that nature I could look for? It is a 1998 F150 SC XLT

Any help is appreciated.

Try this:
Place the key in the ignition and
turn from OFF and RUN eight times in rapid
succession (within 10 seconds)
with the eighth turn ending in the
RUN position. The doors will
lock/unlock to confirm that
programming mode has been
entered.

If the doors lock/unclock then you have remote keyless entry and you just need to buy keyfobs....

Under the dash

Look under the dash, on the firewall.
On the left hand side above the parking brake, you should see a box.

Mine is white with a 5 digit code on it ( for the key pad ), your year it might be balck still.

The box should say Remote Keyless / anti thieft.

If this is there, you are good to go.
jefflaws posted on how to program the key fobs, you if you have it, you don't need to pay the dealer to do this.

If you want to take a look before you crawl under there, I think the world has 2 postings on addng the keypad, and the first is for an older truck, and I think it shows what the box looks like on yours, if it is not the white one I have ( something tells me it is differnet color ).

Just something to visually look for, I also seem to recall, but am unsure, that the program entry was different for some years, but I do not recall if that was for the autolocks only, or in addition to the keyfob programming.

Good luck, let us know what you come up with.

If nothing else, go the route of the aftermarket, rather then the high dollar cost Ford one, if you do not have this installed.

Thanks for the help guys. I will look tonight. I don't think I have it because I don't have any kind of theft dash light. I also don't have the automatic (lock when put in drive) door locks. I thought maybe they were disabled and tried the enabling process and it didn't work. If it doesn't have them I will go the aftermarket route and get keyless entry and remote start while i'm at it. What the hell, right...

Weber, yeah, i've got them around here somewhere I believe, just have to dig them up. I've promised them to a couple of relatives at different times, but nobody has asked me for them. They are aftermarket, I forget what brand.

Any idea how complicated it is to install the keyless entry function only? Thanks.

I bought new remotes for my '98 Lariat. I tried the off-run cycle a bunch of times with no luck. I used the old remote (broken key ring but otherwise works) to lock and unlock. Then the program mode worked, exept that I still can't get it to recognize the new remotes.

I have to check to be sure the ones I bought are correct. I may be back with more questions on this subject.
