Trailer lights Plug
Trailer lights Plug
Has anyone else have this trouble, When I went to plug my trailer in I found that the stock plug would not fit. This is a 01 screw. My plug on the trailer will not fit the stock truck plug.Do they make a special plug. This is just the plain 4 pronge plug. It is like I have to trim the out casing on the truck.
My Solution...
I found an adapter M-F that worked. Don't remember the brand off hand, but you should be able to find one locally to you. Short of that, you will have to buy an uncovered plug and replace the one on your trailer.
If you could tell us exactly what doesn't fit, it will help, but let me offer some suggestions. The most common problem I see at the marina I work at is that somebody replaces the plug on the trailer with the end that's supposed to be on the vehicle. (Is your trailer wiring 100% original?) It's an easy mistake to make and also easy to cure. (Fix the trailer - not the truck in this case.) You might also have the opposite problem if the truck wiring is not 100% original.
Another problem that's growing more common is a new connector (on trailers with disk brakes) where you have a flat 5 plug on the trailer instead of a flat 4. (The fifth wire is for a solenoid to allow you to back up.) If you have this issue, you need a bit of re-wiring. Does that help?

The standard plug on the trailers (3 Male, 1 female) has a shroud over the connectors. The connector on the truck does not have a cut-out for the shroud to fit on. So, you are left with either replacing your trailer connector for one without a shroud, buy an adapter M-F where the and that plugs into the truck doesn't have a shroud (the choice I chose), or cut the shroud off the trailer plug. The connector was only a couple of dollars.
That is my Problem, So I will run to the Parts store and see what I can get. Thanks for your help.

Glad To Help...
I had gone to the dealership on Saturday looking for an adapter and was basically told "Tough ****" by the Parts Manager. Then he told me to go across the street to a "have everything" type of farm store and sure enough, they had it.
