Question Electric windows

I am looking for an accessory which makes all the window buttons behave like the driver's side window down button (touch & release & the window goes down). It also behaves the same to wind the windows UP.
I saw one on a '97 F-150 which worked like this when I was in the East.
I am unable to find the thing, but I am sure the device is still available out there.

Thanks,

Giles.

I seriously DOUBT you will find one that rolls the window up. That would be so dangerous no one would manufacture one.

I have never seen such an aftermarket accessory to add the "auto down" feature to other windows (for what that's worth).

It could be done though. Radio Shack probably has all the parts needed.

That project would require some experience with electronic design, prototyping, construction, etc. I am ASSUMING you don't yet have that experience and that is why you asked how.

Building something for myself is a lot different than designing something and "posting it on the web".

I cannot afford the liability if something should go wrong with the design or the installation.

Volkswagen has this feature. It behaves like a garage door where if it feels an obstruction, it will reverse direction. It's nice.

Thanks XLT_D
I knew you were going to say that I talked to the electricians at work and they told me the same thing. Imagine that
Have a great day

Jimb,

The Volkswagen feature is not an aftermarket accessory!

DEI makes a window control module that will give you auto up/down on BOTH windows. Your local alarm shop will have it. There are two models, one only rolls them up, the other goes up and down. Should cost you about $70 for the module. I love mine.

Your right... if you have a DEI alarm system, and only want to do it "remotely".

------------------------------
DEI's description:

'Window Automation System
Integrate factory power windows with your security system, for convenient remote control operation. Roll up windows upon arming, or use an auxiliary channel to roll down or vent. May require additional parts or labor—consult your sales representative for details.'

Price: $147.00
Part number: 530T
------------------------------

A bit more than $70, plus "additional parts or labor".

Why not use Ford parts. The relays are already in existence for the drivers side. So buy two more (one for drivers side passenger window control and passenger side passenger window control). You may also want to replace the buttons with the one that says "auto) so any passengers know that the truck has this feature (liability reasons).

There's more to it than the switches and relays.

If it was available it would be an option!

Wrong. The module is $70 at any Best Buy, Circuit City, etc. Once the module is installed, your factory door switches will allow you to do one-touch up, one-touch down, ALONG WITH the DEI alarm transmitter. Trust me, I used to do this for a living, and I currently have the module installed in my truck. Labor to install at most shops will run you about $40-$50, but it is quite easy to do yourself.

ps...the price you quoted is probably DEI's MSRP, which I'm sure we all know MSRP's are higher than what the product usually sells for.

I want to thank all of you for the advice. I rarely have kids in my truck, and when I do, I lock the window controls anyway.

thanks.

Giles.
