Was my 01' supposed to have DTRL?
A quote from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website under Motorcycle Conspicuity:
"DRL usage on cars may influences the environment and effectiveness of motorcycle automatic-on headlamps and warrants investigation."
They then proceed with recommendations to: "Conduct research on the effect of automobile DRL on motorcycle safety."

The Motorcycle Riders Foundation has some comments to the NHTSA proposals at this website:
http://www.mrf.org/articles/1998/daylite.html
They tend to be a little more realistic than I am. Basically they take the approach that DRLs are coming to everyone, like it or not. Then they support, or not, different parts of the proposals. For instance they would prefer the running light DRLs instead of the headlight DRLs (I think the Camaros and Firebirds use that type in Canada????). Another thing they support is limiting the power of the headlight DRLs, which is not controlled now. Some of the manufacturers are even wiring up the highbeams instead of spending the extra money to add a reduced power circuit.
This site has some interesting tidbits for and against. For instance, Australia repealled the mandatory DRL law in 1996 after what they claim was no signifigant benefit. They also claim the European studies were bogus.

There's just as much stuff out there that say DRLs are great, but hey, I'm trying to convince you to go with my view.
Thanks for the open mind enough to listen, I really mean that. Lots of people just don't care.

hmt-
not once was it my intention to put blame on bikers. my statement merely meant that dtrl alone will not cause accidents. poor driving alone will. the point of the statement was that if we want safer roads, for cars and bikes, we need to get poor driving out of here. i don't disaggree that dtrl may cause bikes to blend in with them, but again, dtrl don't cause bad drivers.
i hope you can see that i am not trying to blame you, nor am i trying to say that i don't care about bikers, i have already stated that i do respect them. please try and understand that. if you are not even going to try i am done with this post.
