I don't have the recall notice with me but what it came down to is that the problem would cause your wiper motor cover to melt and could catch fire . . . more so if you the intermitant setting . . . !

I'll get the letter when I get home tonight but you'll probably get all the information you need before then!

What years are the recall for as I haven't gotten a notice this is the first I heard of such a recall.

i believe it is for all 2001 trucks....i am not sure if it was for other years too. i just saw it on tv the other night and got a little worried that my brand new truck would catch on fire while i was driving. thought it would be a good idea to find out what is up. the dealer told me to just use them as little as possible until i go in next week to have my hard bed cover put on. they said they would check it then.

Okay:

NHTSA Campaign ID Number 01V258000, dtd 08/23/2001,
for Ford F150s, Units affected: 1083000, manufactured: 02/2000 - 09/2000

The manufactured date is the date of the wiper motor! Probably the best thing to do is check the wiper motor date then call your dealer!

Pulled out the recall letter, dated August, 2001:

Safety Recall: 01S24

. . . certain 2000 and 2001 model year cars and trucks . . .

. . . wiper motor park switch (located in the wiper motor) may malfunction . . .

. . . - loss of wiper intermittent park function . . .

. . . - complete loss of all wiper function . . .

. . . - complete or partial loss of wiper function, and the melting of the plastic wiper motor cover, potentially resulting in smoke and/or localized fire.
