My friend tried to connect scanner to a diagnostic OBD port to check my car but the scanner didn't work so he connected it to his car, it worked.
What is the problem in my car any one know?


I bought this car 3weeks ago through car- dealer with 1year warrantee.
Do you think I can claim to my dealer to fix it?

 

Probably a blown fuse for the cigar lighter, the OBDII port is on the same fuse.

Look up the fuse # in your owner's manual. If you don't have one, see signature below for a download.

Of course, you failed to state what your "car" actually is, so you're on your own if it's not a Ford that followed Ford's general practice.

 

Not all OBD ports are the same, different manufacturers implemented different versions at different dates and the dates even varied by model. So the reader that you're using may not be compatible with your vehicle.

OBDII ports use international standards, ALL vehicles sold in is the US since MY 96 (with several minor delays) were required to use the same base communication protocols.

Stick with the easy stuff, like the very common blown fuse I already told him to look for.

 

I think this was getting at SAE J1850 PWM vs ISO 15765 CANbus ( 2008 forward )

I think Ford changed the F150 to ISO 15765 CAN bus prior to 2006 ( something is telling me the new body style in 2004 started with CAN bus ).

My old ( 16 +/1 years old ) OBD scanner did not do CAN Bus, the pins were not in the connector for 15765 and it was looking for J1850 PWM or VPW.

J1850 uses pins 2 ( bus+) 4, 5 ( grnd ) 10 ( bus - ) 13 ( PCM input ) and 16 ( power ).

CANbus 15765 uses pin 6 ( HS-CAN + ) & pin 14 ( HS-CAN - ), 4 & 5 are still ground and pin 16 power. There is also pin 3 ( MS-CAN + ) and pin 11 ( MS-CAN - ).

Check a 2001 ( 1997 ) EVTM cell 14 and compare it to a 2006 or newer EVTM cell 14.

Jihyeon -> can you either complete your profile with the info for your truck or post it in the thread as well as provide the information on the scanner you are using ( mfgr - model and a date code on it or best guess on when it was purchased ).

 

On my 2007, I have blown the fuse several times. Depending on which model you have, it could be a different fuse. Looking up the Owners Manual online, there are different versions of the manual, and the fuse blocks are configured different.
