Programing FOB

I have 1 key and 1 FOB that are original. I bought 2 new FOBS and have read the directions to program them. My question is when I go to program the new and original FOB will it affect the chip in the Key? Will the Key work as normal? Is there anything to watch for? I don't want to mess up the only key I have. Oops I have 2001 f150 XLT

It might not be a bad idea to go get a clone key made anyway.

Walmarts that have the new machines can cut clone keys at about half the dealer price for a real 2nd key.

If you want 2 unique PATS keys you need to go to the dealer ( or a locksmith with a PATS programmer ).

If you just want 2 keys in case you lose 1 of them, the RFID cloned key is fine.
- You won't be able to add a unique key or remote start with it, but it will start the truck.

the Factory RKE programming is just the RKE fobs, nothing to do with the keys.

Make sure to have all the fobs you are going to program there, as entering RKE fob programming mode erases all the RKE fobs and starts from scratch.

Don't be shocked if you take 2 or more times to get it into RKE fob programming mode.
It took me 3 or 4 times on my 2001, and I could have swore that I did it the same each time.
- obviously I did not or it would have worked the 1st time.

PATS would be the type of key.
PATS Keys have a RFID number on them, that is the code that is programed to the truck, making it able to start.

Clone is a 1 to 1 copy of an existing PATS key.
The truck cannot tell the difference between the factory key and the clone of the factory key, the RFID number is the same on both.
- This is why a clone cannot be used with the factory key to program a new unique PATS key or remote start bypass unit.
